i agree... i wonder how many people, when they look at a person with a normal, attractive face, never really see *the person*, just the face that's in front of them. this little girl is *a person.* if you feel sorry, don't feel sorry for the girl, feel sorry for the culture that sees only a face and is blind to the person... |

(note: I haven't watched the video at the time of this post) I'm sure I'll piss everyone off, but i dont care: What about back in the day, when natural selection had a say in things? nowadays science allows people with terrible genes to survive and even produce more tainted humans. To me, its obvious, if you're born and you cant breathe or you cant eat because you dont have a mouth, guess what. You're fucked. Something somewhere is trying to say something, yet everyone is like "poor thing!". You know whats sadder than this? The fact that you have to hook them up to a machine so they can survive. Yeah its sad, but guess what, everyone dies at some point, so why would you want to let this poor girl suffer and go through life living like this? If it was my kid, it would be extremely hard to put my money where my mouth is, but I would still go through with it. It wouldn't be easy and it would probably haunt me for the rest of my life, but I dunno, I guess i feel that in the long run its the best thing. I'm willing to discuss this so dont get your panties in a bunch... |

true, this girl highlights the thin line between meaningful life and purposeless suffering, even living and dying. i won't pretend to know what i would do in her parents' place. however, anytime i've heard anyone interviewed who suffered from tremendous physical limitations/difficulties, the individual was very glad that they were given the chance to overcome those challenges, and to seek success on their own terms. i do hope that reconstructive surgery will help ease her burden. if this little girl's presence can remind one person of the importance of perceiving a whole person and not just their face, clothes, hairstyle, etc then i think her life is tremendously valuable, and though she may be forced to find pleasure and joy far removed from our own experiences, i see no reason why she should be deprived of her own pleasure and joy. |
