"And did you know that if the food you are eating is high
fat, it feeds you apetite and you eat more than you should."
No, it's the other way around. People on the Atkins diet don't have an appetite because of the fat. The ones who get their appetite back, most likely have been eating more carbs than their threshold can handle (threshold refers to how much carbs you can handle before you start gaining weight again).
The diet doesn't eliminate carbs completely. I just won't be shoving them in my face the way I used to.
I had eggs and bacon for lunch today :) Tuna sallad with 100% fat olive oil is for supper. Yeah abby!

i don't work out but i'm healthy because i eat varied meals.
i know people that work out excessively and get sick more often than i do.
i know health freaks that died of cancer.
working out is something you might do for fun. not to stay healthy.
when i'm outside, i usually walk a lot. if i would run for 5 minutes, i would probably collapse afterwards though.

Starting weight: 90kg
7 days later: 86kg <--!!!
This is with only a couple of walks, while doing some photography for my photoblog.
You know when you're really hungry like your stomach is sucking on your spine. Well, I don't have that anymore. I feel hungry in the mornings, but nothing like that.

I know atkins is dangerous if you do any kind of heavy physical exertion.
Atkins died of a heart attack at over 200 pounds! Not the kinda guy I would be taking diet advice from...

"Atkins died in April at age 72 after slipping and falling on an icy street and suffering a severe head injury. He remained in a coma until taken off life support."
"During his coma, as he deteriorated and his major organs failed, fluid retention and bloating dramatically distorted his body and left him at 258 pounds at the time of his death, a documented weight gain of over 60 pounds"

It's going really well. I'm down at 84kg after 5 weeks. The weight loss has really slowed down now. I lost 5kg in the first 7 days.
There are other health related things that make me want to continue this. A thing with my heart, that has just vanished. Also, it's like I had a digestion system transplant. I really feel good.
Tomorrow I'm back at work and the plan was to go back to regular diet after X-mas, but now I don't know. Eating healthy already helped me once back in april. I went from 89 to 81kg just by cutting out sugar and taking walks.
The only bad thing with Atkins is that I spend so much time in the kitchen preparing everything.

The thing is that you really should eat fat food. It will kill your hunger and help you lose weight. Without sugar and carbs, fat is just another component in the whole thing, instead of the usual 'deadly-fat' that it is when you eat carbs and sugar.
You'll know, if you try it. I know that if I had eaten that much fat and sugar, my heart would've quit 3 weeks ago.

pf, I really don't like any of the "laatikot" on the Finnish christmas menu. Ham and "lohi" is good though :)
corrupted, check out the site. There's a list of all the allowed foods and then some. Make sure you research the ingredients in everything you plan on eating. Assuming something is allowed to eat can slow your progress. Happened to me, I used alot of garlick on meat the first week. I found out garlick actually has quite alot of carbs. Stay alert when shopping, they put sugar into everything these days and it's not always declared on the packaging.

I wouldent recommend the atkins diet, it's not very good for you
Actors/actresses use it in cases where they need to loose weight quickly due to role requirements but if you're in no rush toloose the weight then take your time over it
Yes the wieght will come off wuick but it's not a very healthy way to do it and you'll feel like shit

well, the only reason i wanna try it is because im going to puerto vallarta i a couple weeks.. so if there is this drastic first 2 week weight loss... i need it.
so im starting today. i hope it works.
but from reading the site.. after phase 1 you start to add more fruits, veggies and healthy grains.. so as long as you dont over eat greasy cheese and too much steak.. it's pretty healthy.

yeah, i'm pretty skeptical about both the long term effectiveness, and about the posibility of negative side effects of atkins.
-------- ...after a year, there was no significant difference in weight loss between the low-carbohydrate diet and a standard low-calorie diet.
...
...foods high in saturated fat such as meat, butter or cream — have been shown to increase your risk of heart disease and some types of cancer.
-------- reference
but, that's just me, i don't really believe in "dieting" at all... but, i do think that maintaining a healty balanced diet is important... even if i don't do it at all.

You should be fine if you're only gonna be on it a little while, it's what the diet is designd for at the end of the day =o)
I lasted about 3 days and I got spots and my breath stank and I felt sick and couldent sleep properly or anything, but apparently that only lasts a little while
It just didn feel right
The diet basicaly makes your body act in a way that it's not supposed to and that's why it's not a healthy option to wieght loss

Without fat, you'll feel like you're starving. Believe me. You're supposed to eat salad anyway. 20g of carbs worth a day, which is alot of salad.

"Without sugar and carbs, fat is just another component in the whole thing, instead of the usual 'deadly-fat' that it is when you eat carbs and sugar."
I'd say the only 'deadly' fats are saturated fat and cholesterol. Aren't carbohydrates and sugar more like raw calories, which may or may not turn into additonal fat, depending on the amount of the consumer's physical activity? On the other hand, fat in meat and dairy, eggs, etc, is the only source of cholesterol and by far the biggest source of saturated fats in western diets. If you read up on studies you'll clearly see that those animal fats are what you should be calling deadly. they collect into your circulatory system, and do not just collect in a paunch or a fat ass.
I mean geez. Just because you are losing weight, you shouldn't think that what you are doing is automatically healthy. I'm not going to get into the amount of toxins/chemicals/etc in animal products compared to plants, since I probably wouldn't make a difference to someone who enjoys meat and is set on it. oh well.
I know someone has probably already said everything I've just said here, but I am too lazy to read through this entire thread.
