i think that accesibility is a debatable topic, whats more
or less accesible if its just plain out good, take
windowlicker, that is the most accesible track there is, but
its a dam fine track and just because it gets more people to
like this type of music, does not mean that its accesible
destroys the fact that it is a great song.

well, i think the cream will always rise to the top so to
speak, basically you either got it or you suck, this is
independent of the methods you use, granted if you put the
time in to learn a program, you are going to be a wiz on it,
but some people just have a gift/are musical geniuses.

so we're talking ability to access music 'physically' rather
than finding it interesting?

well then.

i see what you are saying that others can make seeminly
complicated stuff, but only really tweek the stuff without
being musical per se, i have listened to some of the spam on
here, some of it sucks, and some of it is alright, but you
know when you hear a track that is "good" or has something
about it that is special, if you have listened to music, one
can tell the difference.

haha,yeah true...

i'm thinking about the mass media fillage....u got all this
products,media is pumping even faster.
one day u get arturia's mood modular, and the next one they
give you CS80.
i mean,it's all good...i like that way and i like to hear
more and more poeple get exposed, but i think that most of us
really dunno that much about music and everything is gotten
up to just tweaking presets and using sample packs.
i mean..what ever happened to the days when we heard the
first plastikman or the first Ae or dunno who.

maybe you have a point, look at what happened with kurt
cobain and guitars, everyone has a guitar, but can they
really play a guitar, or are they just slapping a distortion
on it and wailing it all to hell, good point.

just because there is more crap doesn't mean what's good
isn't just as good as it would be. or less abundant.

i am a big fan of aphex and his analogue stuff, but i think,
at least for me, music is meant to be listened to, meaning,
an artist makes something releases it, it gets digested and
consummed by his audience, time for the next thing, this is
really important in analogue v digital music, aphex made
analogue stuff which blew everyone out of the water, he then
made digital stuff, that blew everyone out of the water, now
he is releasing stuff that will undoubtedly sound dated
compared to his latest (drukqs, rdj), it will be good no
doubt, but some people will be turned off by its sound. i
love the track polynomial c, but compared to vordhosbn, it
only holds up to a certain level before you say to yourself,
okay i can tell this is older and this is newer.

i think there is an idm scene, and there always will be.
what happens is that the longer you listen to a specific
genre, you get jaded, everything starts to sound the same,
your favourite artists fail to deliver, even tho the release
may be strong to a new(ish) pair of ears.

i have been listening to "idm" or as i like to call it
"electronic music" for more than ten years ( i was born and
bred in sheffield so i grew up with warp)....ae kinda bore
me now (which is a shame) aphex the same.....its not that
draft 7.30 or druqs are bad albums, far from it, i just
found it a tad dull. i still hear good new artists (kiyo,
fennese, telefone tel aviv, in the last year).
people bleat on about warp/skam/whoevers output dropping in
quality....if i was running warp, i would want to do
something different.

whatever, each day brings new people into the scene who
enjoy it for a few years then find other things.there comes
a point when you start listening to music, not genres.

how many of you see yourselves into this in five years
time?

good point, my tastes are always changing i think that was
part of what i was trying to say below, music is meant to be
digested and consummed then you move on, its the nature of
the beast.

idd...i'm also constantly evolving in music, which is a good
thing, cos it makes you appreciate music on a whole different
level.
let alone speak about production...

"what are your thoughts about it and do you feel that media

accesibility somewhat destroyed the so called idm?"

it's a fact that idm has been co-opted to an extent and
regurgitated as, literally, commercial music. there are
plenty of car commercials, mtv jingles, etc imitating the
style of aphex or other artists.

i think it was inevitable for it to happen as quickly as it
did, because the more accessible a form of art is, the
faster it will be commercialized and sold to the mass
markets. that much is obvious - we wouldn't expect a
commercial with soundtrack by merzbow.

the music on rdj and on plaid, lfo albums, squarepusher,
etc, much of it is already masses-friendly if presented in
the right way. it was just a matter of time before it would
be twisted the way it has.

and i certainly don't like it any more than anyone else -
it's very obnoxious, but that's what happens with art in an
mtv-culture. that's the way we should expect it will be
from now on.
