gwely: i hear that. i need challenged. i need somethign that
makes me have to really absorb it in more than one sitting
and really make think about even whether i think its good or
not.

i had the most brilliant high listening to theme of sudden
roundabout, i could hallucinate the visual aspect of the
sounds, i could fly into the chaotic programming which isnt
random in the LEAST if you have a smart enough mind to
follow it, and think "WOW" when you reach a part where like
a few layers of programming overlap in unison and then go
off again, its like almost parralell lines, but theres a
curve and after a long time, the two lines meet up and go
through one another, isnt that something truely spectacle? i
think so, and ive had this epiphany of utter astoundment and
understanding while listening to confield and draft (only
those two albums)

whoa what did i just say..

i could also go on and on about drukqs, about how much mood
and emotion it builds up in me, and how catchy and evil some
of the songs are, but theres nothing complex to comment on,
well there are complexities, but after youve heard draft,
the word complexity reaches a new meaning

Well you know what? I like to ENJOY music, I don't need it
to be without dissonance or unexpected progressions, but I
don't need it to be different or NEW just for the sake of
it. It's pathetic that you ask for that from music. Great
music can be simple. Listen to Erik Satie's music. This was
written a century ago.

hey man, i chill out listening to envane and garbage ep
allot, im a big fan of the beautiful simple stuff.

but for you to dismiss complex music having the ability to
be ENJOYABLE, then your mind is feeble, and talking to you
might lower my IQ..

I can't believe your arrogance! You seem to enjoy music that
you find different, new, challenging, complex. I enjoy
mainly music that is beautiful, simple, timeless, and that I
can personally relate to. Saying that though, I don't
advocate lyrics in music.
Anyway, this could never make me less intelligent than you.
Apart from the creator's self expression, music is about
uses and gratifications. We each ask for something different
from music, and that's that.

~1 pm BST. But I was going to leave it at that. It's
annoying that you somehow think you're more intelligent than
me over something as trivial as a 'which album is better'
argument, the whole thing is about taste and opinion anyway
so it doesn't matter. I say each to their own, enjoy
autechre, but don't encourage musical elitism by denouncing
my opinions etc. This messageboard is hostile enough as it
is

it would be a draw for me, drukqs has more tracks and
therefore takes me longer to digest as a whole, whereas
draft, i want to listen to it longer, and study each track.
drukqs is sweet, then nasty, then sleepy (good sleepy), and
draft is closed in, then vacuous, then strange (good
strange).
something i do notice is this: i can put drukqs on when i am
with other people, not into electronic music, and they will
get in to some of the tracks, BUT i cannot put draft on,
they will not get in to it. i have to be by myself to get
the full experience.

I really like Draft 7.30. But Drukqs breaks my heart.

It can be, but it rarely is. But I suppose if you were to
say that a song on draft meets all of those criteria, it'd
still be down to taste for what you would call beautiful. Do
you think a musician should strive for perfection like that?

draft makes me think: "this is great music"

drukqs makes me cry

well, i mean... look at ultravisitor.

to me, that fits all criteria. it is complex and challenging
at times, and at others it is quite simple and innocent. i
think it has fun, i think it has depth of emotion, i think
it is colorful at times, and sometimes also bleak and grey.
to me, itll always be one of his best because he was able to
pull it ALL together. i think draft is like that for me,
too. it seems to me they were able to pull the confield
thing and the lp5 thing together into one. its actually a
very accessible album once you feel it out. i dont know,
maybe thats just my experience... but id say give them a
chance. i wrote them off, but found somethign had me popping
gantz in even thoguh i hated it. it intrigued me. now i
totally and completely adore it. very satisfying.

Who cares? They're both good.

And also: I vote Draft 7.30! The way all the sounds flow
seperatley from each other and how they relate to one
another.... this record is jazz, man. I love it.

Favourite from Drukqs: Mt. St. Michaels St. McDonalds Mount
or whatever. Maybe Ziggomatic v17. The climax that both
these songs build to has already been praised enough by both
myself and other members, so I shan't both.

Favourite from Draft 7.30: Theme from Sudden Roundabout is
just incredible. The way the melody slinks in, the fat
squelchy beats, the sound that is in the last few seconds is
absolutely indescribable, yet I feel like I hear it every
day. The track is so alien yet so human at the same time.
Amazing.

if you really want to compare Drukqs with another album I
think Drukqs vs Clarence Park would be more suitable

Well that's exactly what I enjoy in Draft 7.30. Personal
taste.

DRAFT 7.30

And my selection is just a personal preference, not a vote
for a competition winner.

There should be a Drukqs vs Confield poll, because they're
of the same era, and Confield is better than Draft.

Wait, no there shouldn't... you can't compare two different
things, that's ridiculous!
