his music seems so much more personal than any one
elses...Also, everything I hear by him just rings GENIUS to
me, I can't explain why but it does. So yes he's still my
favorite.

AFX has released some very good stuff in the past, I use the
word "past" cause it has been a while ago since he released
some stuff, I even like some songs from drukqs, but is he my
favourite?
The question: "is AFX your favourite artist?" is kinda of a
question I can't answer emmediately by screaming "YES, HE
IS!" cause he has released some good stuff in the past and
there are many other artists who release(d) good stuff to.
If I had to compare all the songs from AFX that I like, with
all the songs from other artists, it would be to hard to
tell he is my favourite artist; I like many artists, (AFX is
one of the favourite out off +/- 50 favourite artists), I'll
be listening till daylight next year to answer the question
correctly.
No; AFX is not my favourite artist who walks or has walked
on the planet's surface, never was never will. At the moment
my favourite artist is; nacmat; cause he has created a
beautifull topic.
I do like AFX' stuff so maybe he will be my favourite
afterall, but my doubts are so big I'm almost sure he won't
.
But why did you buy "music has the right to children" at the
time, what were you listening before you got into AFX? cause
I can't imagine it wasn't electronic music.

rdj is my favourite musician, yes. although i prefer music
by quite a number of other people. but if i he wouldn't get
me into electronic music i doubt i'd ever discover all these
brilliant musicians.
dunno, if this makes any sense...it does to me. :)

AFX is what got me into modern electronic music , i always
wrote it off until then , i was a die hard "live"
experimental/alt stuff purist [sonic youth , boredoms ,
black dice etc ] but his music just had /has amazing
melodies , crazy exciting beats and just a real character ,
which is what i find lacking in alot of electronic stuff.
yeah its just sad that he refuses to release alot of stuff ,
i can't blame him really though , it's his choice really , i
guess he just cant be assed with being this whole phenomenon
with lots of people who know fuck all about music just
getting his records because aphex is such a by- word for
"cool".

the first time i heard aphex twin's music was quite a
strange experience. it was on new year's eve, the tv was on,
tuned to mtv's party zone (before the time it started to
suck badly). at some point something very brtual and
agressive started, accompanied by the most amazing video i
had ever seen. yep, "come to daddy". i was really stunned.
this made me search for aphex's music everywhere i could and
found with incredible efforts a pirated copy of "ventolin
remixes"... and it was quite a downer. i really liked just 2
or 3 tracks. after that i found other afx releases and while
some of them appealed much to me, i found some quite
inadequate and some even crap. he never got to be my
favourite. still, something makes me like him. probably the
attitude of the sort "i do whatever i like, you may like
whatever you want". but i could never like him more than
autechre.

I believe the word genius is used a bit lightly in this
thread.

especially in silly capital letters.

to nacmat,
Hello,
Well, Richard never was my all-time favourite like
Supersilent, Leila, Autechre, Plaid, Mouse On Mars, Bjork or
Solex or , hmmm.. tujiko noriko but he was my favourite
artist during a year or so.. i think he is still one of the
best artists around and he's the Genius ! I mean, real one
!!! That is important ! Maybe his Drukqs album sucks (yes,
I don't like this album except for piano parts but I think
Tori Amos can do better) but I still respect him..

(i'm sorry for my poor english....)

still just cool to name drop for some twats or just get to

Tricky's "Blowback" at all. It's too commercial for me. i

RDJ is OK

I thought that come to daddy album was a vector for the next
album. I thought guy will become popular.... like bjork or
something...Then windowlicker came out... heh.. I was like
OK freaky... but then drukqs came out... a great
dissapointment... That is when I found watmm's
community.... It was a dissapointment too... druqks simply
sucked cock and then it was done for cashe (24 remixes).

just too many dissapointments

As I progressed in music making, I realized how simple somet
things were and that complexity was all in my head. It was
all in my head... world I liked never existed...

I grew up.

Aphex was my favorite, back when I still haven't heard much
else. Nowadays, I just have different favorite artists
depending on my mood. Each of my favorites contributes
something to the whole spectrum of sound/emotion/etc...
Think of them as each a window on a very large wall, and
each window shows a different universe. Its hard to pick a
favorite window.

"Stars of the Lid" is really really NOT good. Faux ambient.
I cannot recommend it at all. I find Brian Eno to be so much
better. Bah, but SAW2 only has a few good tracks on it
anyways. I'll shut up now.

But nacmat, I thought you said Confield was your all-time
favourite album?
___________________________________________________

Anyways, I think that Aphex is the one artist that I can
claim really got me where I am today in terms of my music
tastes. Sure, not all of his stuff is brilliant, (I for one
despise the Come to Daddy mini-album and the track itself as
well) but to me it all reflects a pure art form that is so
personal to him nd his experiences, but also personal enough
to reach out to those listening to it, that it really moves
me.

I don't listen to his stuff all of the time, and I haven't
listened to any of his albums for months (I am only
revisiting them now - re-experiencing them), but it all
sounds great to me, the pure roots of IDM

And the other night I was thinking that Drukqs may very well
be my favourite piece of music of all time - I can't even
begin to describe the nature of this album.

So I guess yes, he is my favourite overall. And I'm happy
for it to be that way.

autechre's stuff has a random, fractal quality, even though
they say they program note for note lots of times. They make
cool sounds, but Afx's stuff is so we'll planned. More
musical. Draws me in and brings me back way more often.

when you say "More musical" you actually mean "more

It's really hard to say if he is my favourite. Probably not.

But I think the most important thing about Aphex to me is
that i really got into electronica and idm listening to him.
I think Aphex was an artist that made music really
ineresting for me. Before that it was nice songs i listened
to, there wasn't anything... well, anything really touching
in the songs (except for good lyrics sometimes), but in case
with Aphex it's not lyrics, it was music that made me feel
really touched or something.

Another thing about Aphex is when i started listening to his
music i explored that he already had a really huge back
catalogue, and it was really nice for me to search for his
older releases and find precious gems in them. Like, so much
great stuff already was there when i started listening to
idm/electronica, so it wasn't about new music, it was old
music sounding really lush and better than most of the new
stuff. It was great.

Still, he is probably one of my favs, but I don't listen to
his music very often now. But when I do listen to his
[older] stuff now I feel really nostalgic. Heh, now it's
like visiting your grandparents that live in another city -
you don't see them often, but they still are very nice
people and you love them.

But Drukqs kinda disappointed me. Can't wait for his new
stuff.

Aphex Twin remain always my fav, 'cos I can't forget how
good are his previous works. Anyway in the last year I
listened his music really few times and this isn't a good
signal.
I'm really disappointed with him, 'cos he's really too lazy
and now i'm starting to become tired of this story.
I think many ppl starting to forget about him and I think
he's not the only one KING more.

I remember after Windowlicker ep all persons spoke about
AFX, and in that period started forum as www.aphextwin.nu,
www.joyrex.com, www.theaphextwin.com, etc...
Aphex was the only one king, and all persons waited for a
new amazing LP.
Now things are differents... it seems many ppl starting to
forget about him, there're really few topics about AFX now
and there isn't more a aphextwin site like in the past
(aphextwin.nu is xltronic, joyrex is watmm, and all the
others sites seems vanished)

Is the legend of Richard D. James near to the end?

I would be sad if it's true...

Aphex still rocks. To be honest I too have neglected
listening to him as my mood has been more acoustic lately,
but even so when I hear his stuff I still hear a depth of
understanding that many other artists don;t seem to have. It
is a something sublime and perhaps even genius. As much as I
love Boc, æ etc they can get quite frustrating in that they
don;t manage Aphex's chameleon qualities.

Aphex is still my favourite. I only discovered him this time
last year, so he is still really fresh in my tastes. I am
quite annoyed that he isn't making anything new at the
moment. He's still young and should be out there taking down
all the other artists. In my opinion he is the mother
fucking daddy of IDM. My dream will be for him to release a
new album within the next year and go on a world tour. Also
I think he should go to Glade next year. Because I haven't
been into IDM for very long I haven't found some one who has
bettered Aphex. My two other favourites are the standard,
Squarepusher, Autechre and BoC.
