I'm a christian...so ive been told.
I believe in GOD. believe there is a GOD. I believe in my own rights to do as I please. SAY WHAT I PLEASE. And not have to be judged by anyone BUT GOD.

I had a pretty religion-free upbringing. My dad was a zen buddhist master and my mom was a hippie and between them the decided to keep home a religionless zone.
I went to a convent school as well though my dad got me an exclusion from religious classes.
Result is that I was left to come to my own conclusions about religion and decided that I don't have any formal religion. Also, i don't have any belief in god as such, I really can't see any justification for anyone having such a belief. On the whole I think that whatever answers are out there to the mysteries of life and death can only be provided by science. Religion does nothing but hold humanity back.

Religion does hold humanity back. But I think religion can be spiritual...however you view peace of mind, love, happiness, nature that can be your own religion.
Or do I sound like a hippie child :>

No that's all fine. I think perhaps that the biggest problem is the concept of 'organised' religion. If we can shed that just let people have their own personal beliefs it would be a good step forward.
I have a problem with people who join political parties. It seems impossible to me that everyone in a political party can hold the same political views. Inevitibly then, members of political parties must sometimes campaign for (and when elected, vote for) things they don't support.
The same applies to people who follow an organised religion.

Those people who join those organized groups do have similar opinions but they become brainwashed to believe what everyone else believe. It's a bit extreme but true. Just because I believe there is a god doesnt mean I'm going to join some fucking youth group with kids who become more fucked up.
Religion has always been fucked up starting with the catholic churches in Rome and they will always be that way. But religion and religious freaks are never going to disappear.

i prefer to take a third person perspective on religion. i'm quite interested in it and enjoy discussing it, but don't consider myself anything; don't really care at this point /to/ be something. i guess i'm agnostic in some ways, but i'm not in others. maybe one day there'll be a point in my life where i'll want to find out, but right now, eh.

Like Walter from The Big Lebowski. SHOMER SHABBAS!!!!!
I was raised Catholic. I went to church every Sunday from when I was 5 to when I was 16 or 17. But I got to the point where I stopped believing in all that shit and I just went to make my mom happy. I eventually told her and she started crying, which made me sad. But right now I'm an agnostic. I think it takes just as much faith to be an atheist as it does to be a theist. I don't have PROOF that God exists, but I don't have PROOF that He/She doesn't. So I'm not making a stand either way. I'm just living my life the best I can, trying to be a generally good person and have a good time because who knows what'll happen after death.

I'm quite Roman Catholic, quite Christian. And I just had an internet argument with somebody about Christianity. It was retarded, like internet arguments tend to be (but I won).
I've been raised Christian, but it wasn't really ever forced upon me. I like the message, so I stuck with it. That's about it. There's no reason for me to ever change, because I like it. Not everything makes sense to me yet, but the idea and general spirit of it is good enough for me.

If you remain open minded, I have a lot of respect for you. There's some Christians I know who are incredibly open minded, and although their faith is strong, they do question and analyse the shit out of every verse in the bible. They come out of it incredibly enlightened and educated.
I cannot stand people reading verses literally and not actually thinking about it. For fucks sake, the bible was written by man; it has bias in it.

Agreed, completely. This faith (and all faiths) are far from perfect, you can't be led blindly around. I just take from it what's right and good for me... what makes sense in my mind. The GENERAL idea is good enough, there's a lot of positives to be taken from it... but the smaller messages... some of them don't fit into MY plan. Some of them are obselete, some of them were biased (human nature), some of them were a product of their time.
Some of the ideas and ''rules'' have changed, it's getting better. Seeing senile old priests lobbying against homosexuality on the news... that's just bull. You only hear the bad stuff. You only see the caricatures on primetime TV. There's openly gay couples in my church, which is perfectly fine with everyone there.
