Instrumental Hip Hop - Sucks!

indeed, that's why i tried to create the impression that the
only resemblage BOC has to hip-hop is in the beats. they
are certainly not verbally documenting their inner-city life
experiences.

I disagree. I love Aphex, Autechre, VSnares, Fennesz and
loads of other artists. Instrumental hip hop because of the
song structure is very restricted. So I think it's fair to
make a blanket statement about it.

Or, and for the record, BoC are a yawn for me.

I love to hear a great MC spit over a wicked track, however
I'm almost always disappointed by the lyrical content.
On the one hand, the MC's who have something constructive
to say are usually pathetic, lack a powerful and interesting
voice or rhyme over really wack beats. Luckily there are a
few exceptions, of which Masta Ace Inc. - Slaughtahouse is a
prime example.
And on the other hand, the MC's style and voices I dig, or
used to anyway, are mostly rhyming about degrading stuff
such as off the charts violence and crime inbetween the
bucketloads of cursing, or they rhyme about the flatridden
topic of making money, how big a pimp they really are etc.
etc. and tbph I'm really quite sick and tired of those dumb
and negative rhymes.
[OT]:I also think it sucks that this rough 'n tough gangsta
attitude is now being steadily incorporated by male and
female artists in chart-topping popmusic aimed at youngsters
and that at it, cursing is unneccesarily used in even the
most meaningless of popsongs just for cursing's sake, or to
make some kind of sad little statement of how rebellious
they really are by doing so.

i'm okay with machine drum and some of luke vibert's stuff.
only vocal hiphop i can tolerate is anything that comes from
the left field of it's genre or anything that is hard. rap
has actually become tolerable to me. it's the staple music
of all my friend's when we smoke up.

I agree the gangsta attitude is a drag. The real problem
is: it sells.

Talib Kweli and DJ Hi Tek - Train of Thought, Common Sense -
Resurrection, Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders ---
are all dope with a positive vibe.

personally i think most hip hop instrumental or not is
pretty poopy. it reeks of trying too hard.

Would you consider this as an instrumental hip hop
song?

Taste is a wonderful thing, it means you can like what you
like and not care about what anyone else thinks.

The ohter thing is why do people bother to try and make out
that it is somebodies loss if they don't like something?

No I dont. But others might considering there is a basic 4/4
hip hop beat in there.
