i don't know much.. when i was in a university choir they've
had several folk songs, some of them having nice simple
harmony, funny love lyrics. Some of them were arranged by
composers so they were not real folk any more.
I don't know much about instrumental folk music of our
country. Shame on me.

I don't know much folk music from the Ukraine, I've heard
some from other eastern european countries though, like
Hungary and Romania. Check out a band called Taraf De
Haidouks if not already, also there is an american band
called Hamster Theatre who are always incorporating eastern
european music into their sound. You could always check out
Bartok's studies on folk music too, he loved it.

yes, i've been there. that was a free gig at some music gear
shop. there were three performances, Midi8, Kotra+Zavoloka,
Ottosiderspunk. Midi8 sucked so much - people had to listen
to a 50 minutes shit trance set with not a single good note,
as for me. No good. He could cut it to 10 minutes or he'd
better never played. Then Kotra & Zavoloka performed. The
last performance of Ottosiders punk was almost good - we
left the place after 10 minutes when they changed their
punky sarcastic vocodered-voice broken rhythm techno to 4/4
umtza umtza, which we were tired of while Midi8 played.

rudster: i wouldn't say that there is SIMILARITY to Plaid..
Surprising piece of information. Which Plaid track should I
listen to if I wanna convince myself and if i have Parts in
The Post, Peel Session, Not For Trees and Spokes + some
compilation tracks?

thanks a lot for posting this kotra ep. it's very good! i
really dig this one a lot.

i've only heard tracks from the bridge (besides this) and it
is quite different, but still sounds like kotra... it isn't
as dense-sounding - there are more dynamics and layers of
different sounds. "pluck" has all these different subtle
sounds happening and tiny glitches that pop out of nowhere.
it's an evolving, warm-sounding piece. "twitch" is the most
noisy track on the album - nice distorted sounds and
feedback. "spurt" is pretty frightening and taut,
horror-ambient. "tug" is built around a really rich,
cinematic-synth riff and all these quieter fast noise bits.
tug really reminds me of a david lynch soundtrack.

great music - i hope a lot more people check this one out!

hehe, we are going to have something very interesting soon.
a festival called detali zvuku (details of sound) is
coming in one month. Ukraine becomes more interesting to
live in.

Note the Staalplaat Soundsystem among the participants. OMG.

anyway, this is another great ep by kotra! it sort of
sounds like processed feedback the whole way through, but i
don't actually know what he's doing musically. i dig it -
thanks for the post! :D
