Well... now I'm getting somewhere. Thanks to http://cplus.about.com
I found out I need "microsoft visual c++ standard
edition
". (unless I should get the gnu tools instead
like panda suggested).

This "standard edition" isn't even available on
amazon.com (just ".net standards")... I mean wtf? Don't a
lot of people want to buy the "standard edition"? It's
inavailability on amazon is just part of the huge elaborate
scheme to keep programming from being easy to get into for
novices.

But, it is available on ebay for only 50 bucks or so.

www.incywincy.com is a really great search engine with tons of
organized information on computer science. That's where I
found the free tutorial.

I've read that many seem to think Lisp is the "most elegant,
most powerful, most poetic language". Thanks for all the
suggestions, there are so many languages. I maybe ought to
start with the "best" one, but fuck it, I'll try c++ since
it's so popular I guess. If I ever get good at it, I can
probably download source code for old nes games or something
and screw with it! I probably couldn't do that as easily if
I spoke (coded) a more "foreign" language.

and believe me, I have enough of a gaping vacancy where my
life should be to fill it with something like programming.

I don't want to get into wafflecode until version 3 when
condiments such as syrup or strawberries and whip creap etc.
are supported.

OMG, I did it! I successfully executed "fagfile" in my
"fagproject", and when it executed, it (after warning me
that microsoft would chop off my testicles if I tried to
share any of my "introductory version" executables) said
"qrter is a fag"!

Now I'm going to fuck some shit up. Well probably
not. (my last "error" was because I chose "win32
application" instead of "win32 console
application"... well excuuuuse me! There's only 3 different
menus with several options in each, so sorry if I picked the
wrong combination!

you don't need to use MS's compiler; there are lots of other
options..

Life is too short to try and learn C++. Especially to do
piddly graphics.

What?!?! programming languages do not take long to learn,
and once you have learned one they all open up pretty
easily.

Besides, if you want to be writing efficient gfx code, it is
most likely going to be C or C++
