2004 has been good so far, its had big fish and eternal
sunshine of the spotless mind, two of my favorite movies
ever now. (wait... was big fish 2004? i believe so but dont
rememebr) but as for upcomming films, after seeing the
trailer for "garden state" 3 times (all while seeing eternal
sunshine) im dying to see it.

works, Lone Wolf and Cub and something called Flicker.

M. Night Shyamalan's "The village" looks interesting, a step
back in the right direction after the utterly disappointing
"signs".

Also, I'm interested in Alex Proyas' upcoming flick. I'm a
fan of his visual style (and his previous flicks "the crow"
and "dark city") and even though it's starring Will Smith
the trailer looks rather interesting plus it's based on an
Isaac Asimov book so....

"what happened to the Alien movies of today?"

i'm unsure of what you're referring to.

if you mean literally what happened to the Alien series, you
only have to watch Alien: Resurrection and the upcoming
Aliens vs. Predator to see where it's been going.

if you mean "where are the groundbreaking, engrossing films
of today?" i honestly don't know.

I am a movie fan, but i really don't like many of the films
that are released nowadays. The only recent film i've seen
at the cinema that i thoroughly enjoyed was Adaptation.

there is at the moment

"if you mean "where are the groundbreaking, engrossing

yep, exactly... i haven't seen a decent hollywood film for a
long, long time. they are too busy making sequels and
re-makes. Only Lynch and Burton seem to make anything decent
lately.

i dislike modern films also for the extensive use of digital
filmography employed in movies today.

i like films with a grain to them. You look at films up
until the mid 90's and you'll see that they have a certain
grain to them....a certain look. if you study this closely,
sometimes you can hazard a good guess as to who's done the
filmography for the movie too because they have their own
preferences for film grades.

The most visually interesting film i have ever seen is
Natural Born Killers. The different grades of camera used in
that film is so refreshing.

Films nowadays look too clean. There's only a few people (in
my opinion) that can pull off using very clean looking film.
Chris Cunningham and Mark Romanek are a couple of guys who I
think can use digital stuff well.

Unfortunately, everyone else seems to want to have the "MTV
look" to their films, so they try to copy :(

anyways, i'm going off topic here. please forgive my
meanderings

The visuals in the trailer reminds me of Anime movies like
Princess Monoke and the likes.

I didn't read all the other posts on this thread but is
anyone looking forward to the Man-Thing movie? I'm quite
jazzed about it. Unlike some other horror comic books
turned movies (blade)... this movie looks even scarier than
the book.

when I read "how fucked up is that" I was reminded of the
1.7gb bittorrent file I waited on for months to finish, only
to find out that when it was finally done seconds ago all it
opened was a 2kb textfile. {:S

Another vouch for SAW.

I really liked the first trailer with Shawnee Smith (awww I
liked her on Becker), but the second was downright laughable
to me. The quick-motion-blur effects reminded me of a
hyperactive gerbil on a wheel, and not in a good way. Now I
know I'm going to bust out laughing in the theatre on that
part.

LOL X-tomatic, now when I go to see the movie, I'll be
reminded of techy horrors like the one you described, which
have driven you binary-furious. Awful. :$
