rupert jex is something of a snail legend. at the age of 2 weeks he was rumoured to be able to eat an entire cordate leaf in one sitting, and old jex face has the toughest shell you have ever seen. he was born during the great hail storm of 2003 but survived without a scratch, unlike the 6 million snails that perished on that fateful day. presently our hero is in the middle of a conversation with some absolute nobody that he has to pretend to like, he has a reputation to keep up you know. thankfully old jexy boy has just smoked a couple of fragments of red moss, so the experience is tolerable. 'RUPES!!!! how are you doing!!!!!??????!?!?!?!??!' says the snail, his siphonal canal contracting in excitement. rupert decides that this is the most boring snail he has ever seen. rupert: 'easy mate, hows it going? like my shell upgrade?' snail: 'wowwowowow, i've got one as well. isn't that strange? that we got the same shell upgrade? let's be friends? yeah?' rupert: 'listen, all i care about right now is the googleplex central heating in this bitch. i've never been warmer.' snail: 'snap, you got the googleplex? i only had enough acorns to buy insulation..padded walls up in hurr..yeah...yeah..' by this time rupert is well and truly glorked on the moss and the snail before him appears to have taken on the form of a small human. the only sound he can hear is the slight hiss of the googleplex generator lodged inside the apex of his shell, and the drone-like speech of the hideous beast in front of him. meanwhile a happy sparrow sings a beatiful song into the ears of his children, who have been crying for food for the last hour. 'it is time', proclaims the father, and in one fell swoop drives his beak deep into the face of an unsuspecting snail, who appears to be in some kind of drug induced trance. a nearby snail dies also. as the father feeds his children on the disgusting slop he feels a sudden guilt fall upon him; it is as though he has ended a legacy. this guilt is so strong that it quickly |
