"a label ain't a label with no distribution"
and a "radio show" is nothing without listeners

so then you get the point?
Web Labels as they tend to be called host a varity of things weather it be free mp3s or CD-R's or what have you.
In this case as i have checked to find it contains free mp3s. So the distribution would be the people that download it and share it with others. Should that be via slsk or another p2p or even with friends that has yet to be seen.
In essence that would be a form of distribution. It's more appealing to others because these are not well known artists.
If for example they charged for these releases I myself probably wouldn't bother as i haven't heard much from them. Through free releases, if they do eventually get signed i might be more prone to actually buy something from one of them, as i would be more firmiliar with the said artist.
I think i went on a tangent here.....
hmm

yea but my point wasn't that i didn't understand what they're doing, just that people who are dedicated and talented (and it does take talent to coordinate it all) enough to do it shouldn't call it a "label" because the term is misleading. it's similar but the things i mentioned before (including distribution to stores and/or online realtors) make it not a label in the traditional sense. i guess "web label" is an ok description except that with label in there you still have that connotation of an official (ie: legally established) company (not a collective of internet artists) who aim to sell cd's. i don't think you can be a real label and never press any commercial copies of an album and i'm undecided on whether a label that sells mp3's (ie: pay to download) as their entire means of reaching an audience is a label or not. this is just my opinion and like i said it's all about the definition of what a "label" is.
the radio show analogy didn't make sense because if you're at a radio station broadcasting, even if no one, absolutely zero people, was tuned in, it's still a show because you're playing music and transmitting it into the air waves. but with a broadcast range of about 50,000 people and an infinite number over web radio it's almost impossible that no one at all is listening, so the analogy was ill suited to the argument and just generally didn't parallel what i was saying at all.

well it's nice to have that cleared up.
however we have declared war on bryce_berny/lasertooth and there will at least be a few months of ridiculously long posts and photoshoppery to document this war.

on another note: isnt it the record company that does the selling and distribution (if that's not done by a distribution company) for a lable that's under them.
and the label get the signies and, i dont know, help them with this and that.
on another sider note: you could go on a philosophical trip with: does a radio show (not a literal broadcast) exist if no-one hears it ?
maybe i ought to go to bed

cool... i was born and raised in Calgary... then i moved to Edmonton, and i've been here for 8 years... but i do visit my parents there... so watch yourself (here's where you're supposed to insert an emoticon to clarify the "jokingness" of the comment... but i feel like a loser when i do them... not because i think they're lame, but really, because everything i do is stupid on some level)

could be worse... i think that if Edmonton and Calgary combined, we could have a pretty decent city... but i reckon it'll take at least another 20 years before they've sprawled into one another... in the meantime, i have my eye on Montreal or Vancouver...
