the n word is overrated. is there anyone here who HASN'T used it at all in their life? both endings ER and GA mean the same thing to me, "a word that you can't say in the bad part of the city". that's about it. |

Rap is one of the musical elements of hiphop. I hate all this trying to seperate rap and hiphop like they are two different forms of music. |

and as for the word 'nigger' (however you decide to spell it, it makes no difference) the word comes from european origin. in some european languages, negre means literally black (as in the colour).. hence, when europeans encountered africans, they referred to them as 'negroes'.. this eventually evolved into nigger.. which was a derogatory term whites used against blacks from the time of slavery onwards. much later, black citizens began reappropriating the word, in order to rob it of the power it once held over them.. to subvert its meaning. the same way that much of the gay population has reappropriated words like 'queer' and 'fag' - using them to describe themselves so that homophobes cant use the word against them any more. this is an ongoing process though. it's all about context.. and im not sure that (in a lot of situations) we're at a stage yet when anyone can use words like 'nigger'.. they may have been reappropriated, but they havent lost all of their historical meaning yet. in my opinion. |
