apology accepted.

OK Computer is painfully overrated. I like it, but that's
it. The Bends is one of my least favourite albums from my
collection, Amnesiac is incredibly poor, Pablo Honey is
okay, HTTT is great. Kid A I adore.
They're getting progressively worse at electronica, though.
Kid A, Idioteque, Like Spinning Plates... these were great.
Worrywort, Backdrifts... okay.
The Gloaming was poor. And that thing on the Go To Sleep
single sounded like a casio keyboard demo with the melody
taken out.

autechre are pretentious? how? they don't hype themselves up
or anything, they just get on with it, they don't care what
anyone thinks

the whole thing. stupid, stupid, stupid. first of all, it's
a pointless debate. you like radiohead or you don't. neither
opinion "radiohead are gods", "radiohead are
overrated/trash", is correct. they're just opinions and with
such extreme polarity between them it's pointless to even
bother trying to convince someone of what you feel about
radiohead. secondly, a lot of you, i'm sorry to say, have
opinions that don't carry a lot of weight. either because
you just started listening to radiohead in the 2000s (some
as recent as this year!) or you just go into it with the
wrong thing in mind (radiohead vs. autechre, radiohead vs.
my favorite rock band, radiohead vs. the media-created
vision of radiohead) or whatever. it's like asking your kid
sister about the new talib kweli song. doesn't mean shit.
sorry. harsh truth. thirdly, it's a tired debate. even if
there was a point to it, or any kind of hope in it, it's
already been discussed ad nauseam on here and everywhere
else. like i said in point #1, you like them or you don't;
move on.

hence my pointing out that these topics always devolve into
an autechre vs. radiohead debate, which is so obviously
pointless i chose to participate in it :D
i'm sure you're generalizing, but i personally have been
listening to radiohead since the bends came out, am aware
this debate is tired, but its funny, and my opinion is
correct.

of course i'm generalizing, i don't have the time or
interest in making points about every single person.. i
barely skimmed the damn thread :P

you're also feeding the fire contributing to this thread,
and you're just asking for zeus to pop in and call you a
condescending bastard.

i see...majority of posts in this thread are just kidding
around imo. its always down to music for me, i like some
radiohead songs, i liked them a lot once actually
(especially when kid a came out), but then i somehow lost
interest in them, these days they just seem/sound fake to
me. another thing that started to bother me is all the hype
about them, which in a way is weird since afx is my fav
artist and he's pretty popular aswell, but at least he's
surprising me constantly and he's pretty good in controlling
himself, he looks like a normal dude, he acts pretty normal
he's down to earth guy and most important - his life is
music...while radiohead seem to think really high about
themselves. but still if they'll release something good i'll
sure appreciate it.

to add 'in a non homo way'

i shouldn't feed the fire, like zaphod said, but i can't
help but ask... what makes you think they think really
highly of themselves? or that richard doesn't? i think
you've got it switched but it's not your fault. if i had to
hear about radiohead all the time and i weren't already a
big fan i'd probably think they were a bullshit band too.

was latent quarter coming though my headphones fucked up for

ae should sing too! not really. do you like the ae

i havent actually met anyone, but from the impression i've
gain watching them perform it seems that way to me
also from the interviews i have read, aphex always seem to
be kidding around and making fun of media, while radiohead
are mostly trying to impress the media...perhaps i've read
all the wrong interviews, but i've read quite some and thats
the general impression...

but in any case, afx music just suits me much more so im
pretty sure that helped a little with how i understand those
interviews :)

bah, it just draws me back in.
watch meeting people is easy and read up a bit on how the
media pretty much shaped radioheads image around thom yorke,
who they shaped into being a pretty grim little man, which i
don't think he is.
take the music for what it is, don't compare two completely
different artists, and maybe you'll actually enjoy the music
a bit. if only media didn't exist to give us preconcieved
notions about artists...

IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD "THE GLOAMING" live, you're missin'
out, it is much better tenfold. Also, I thought "I am
citizen insane" was a good nice piece of work. Radiohead is
an awesome band, and really puts out a great live act,
surpassing the studio cuts by far.

fav. radiohead song at this time: where i end and you
begin

who cares about the artists behind the music really...
Radiohead have been one of my favorite bands since just
after The Bends came out (they were my favorite band for
years)... I've been listening to them, well that's a good 8
years or so now I guess, and I hardly know anything about
them... who cares if they think they're all that... it's the
music that counts, judge the music for what it is... and if
you don't like it then, then fine... you obviously don't
have to... as long as the singer, or artist behind the music
isn't some rapist or murderer, it doesn't really matter to
me what they're like... sometimes it's interesting, like
with Aphex and Boards of Canada, but the music is why I like
and liked those people...

and also, adding fuel to the fire and jumping into these
stupid comparisons, I personally think Radiohead is 10 times
better then Aphex Twin... I haven't listened to Aphex Twin
in ages... whenever I put on an album of his, I usually get
bored after a few minutes and need to chance to something
else... shrug... it's obviously just my opinion...

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2003-10-24 01:48 [#00916141]
Points: 16280 Status: Lurker

I just find it frustrating with Aphex twin though... a group
like Autechre, they've been constantly getting better and
better at their sound... theres a progression there... and
some of their later albums are just amazing works of
electronic music... but Aphex Twin in my opinion, it's like
he's afraid to really pursue one style and try to perfect
that... he jumps around too much... and although that's good
sometimes, in this case I find he jumps around too much...
like he tries something, releases a so so album of that
style, and then tries something else... it's cool in the
sense that he's not afraid to try different things, but it'd
be nice if he tried to get better at a style... Drukqs has
some awesome drill'n bass on it... but it doesn't compare to
the freaky and brilliant programming of Squarepusher on Go
Plastic... shrug... just my opinion obviously... and here on
an aphex message board, I expect some harsh remarks in
return! :)

I agree with titsworth, it is pointless trying to play one
group off against another.

Also I wouldn't really call Radiohead pretentious, I just
think they got far too much media credit for their
electronic work when in general it really wasn't that good,
it was OK, but not praise worthy.

Also Mr Funkmaster Aphex has produced the best version I
have ever heard of any style of electronic music he has ever
tried (personal opinion of course)...but how you can say he
releases so so albums???how can you say that? My least
favourite Aphex album is Drukqs and that is still better
than Go Plastic (again in my opinion :P)

You didn't start listenening to him till fairly recently did
you?

I think it is hard for someone who got into Aphex around
Come To Daddy to understand the impact the likes of ICBYD
and RDJ Album had at the time and I can see that without the
nostalgia element some of the tracks could seem a little
outdated.

16 year old girls from my school talk about how beautiful
radiohead's music is. and then they talk about how sexy
robbie williams is and that they wanna marry rich men,
because being rich makes you hot.
that's how radiohead fans are.

i saw thom yorke on jonothan ross show t'other week and he
didnt seem like a grim little man at all! seemed quite a
happy chappie actually. not that i would care if he turned
out to be a hunchbacked goblin (not much imagination needed
there i fancy) cos i would still listen to everything in its
right place et al and enjoy every second (with the possible
exception of the bits i dont like)

httf wasnt great, but so long as they return to form next
time around i personally dont give a fuck if they call the
album 'save the whales' and start wearing t shirts saying
'look at me.. IM PRETENCIOUS!!!'
cos its all about the music baby.. thats what its all
about... the music... SHAzaaM
