I change my previous statement:

Commercialism symbolizes the decay of modern society

Oh yes - and our "alternative (i.e. new suburban crap punk
and nu metal, rarely some Radiohead or White Stripes)"
station has electronic on Saturday nights until about 2 o'
clock in the morning, but of course, it's shitty shitty
dance music too.

else.

I'm also convinced that they only air about 6 tracks in
total. Everytime I switch on the channel its the same crap
over and over again. Anyone else think this...or maybe its
me

oh yes....the worst thing abvout commercial music these days
is not that I dispise them (which I did a while ago) but
that I just don't see or hear it anymore.....if that makes
sense :s

ENTIRE video catalog played from A-Z at least once every
month... and you could catch some Aphex Twin in there, Bob
Marley, even some old Michael Jackson...

I don't get MTV anymore since I got pirate cable. I get MTV2
which I never watch.

Lately, the only channel I've been watching/having on is
Extreme Sports. I think they have twice as much music as MTV
and MTV2 together. I was eating and watching some BMX action
earlier and this awesome Detroit techno like tune came on. I
didn't see who it was by, but hopefully there's a re-run
tomorrow.

it think the majority of music tv is crap. possibly becuase
it centres around what the majority wants to hear and will
never cator for minorities unless they become popular, who
knows. Thats why i enjoy watching my own vids, listening to
my own cds rather than listneing to radio etc.
I have some friends who are in the process of setting up a
music spot on channel v thats sounds a bit more interesting
than most of whats on tv now.

yeah becuase of the nature of tv it is allmost impossible
for some of us to find anything of real interest, though
there is the od few, like alchemy, an electronica program we
get in sydney which covers a lot of the more obscure stuff
and community radio programs such as 2ser, rrr (other
countries surely must have equivalents) that are non profit
and generally you find a lot more interesting stuff.

offline manifestevil from Australia on 2003-08-24 20:06 [#00835440]
Points: 986 Status: Regular

maybe it has something to do with mass marketing becuase i
find that say for instance the channel that alchemy is on
has little or no advertising and same goes for these
community radio stations.
Go to yr main tv channels and station and its an advertising
assault.

we have an independent station here in DFW called KNON -
completely non-commercial. They play a lot of variety of
music but no IDM. They have, like, a different type of music
for every hour. One time I caught them playing some Grateful
Dead bootlegs. Not a bad station. I used to listen to their
Death Metal hour late on Saturdays back in high school,
which had a LOT of underground stuff and classics from
Slayer and Sepultura, but they've changed the rotation since
then and their host is some idiot goth girl who talks like
she's some ancient princess.

hope that maybe someone will pick it up.
and if all elese fails u have yr own music and a stereo?
thats plenty enuf for me.

for more than 3 years i've been watching primarily fashion
tv. for those of you who don't know it - that's a station
that plays fashion shows 24/7. the background music they use
is awesome - i've heard boards of canada there, afx,
squarepusher, some nice house and lounge tunes also, i even
heard ae's remix of two bass hit a few days ago. great music
and beautiful girls, what more could a guy want?

p.s. for the girls out there - there are even male underwear
shows at midnight sometimes... :)

the bad thing is that f.tv doesn't play the hole tunes. just
about 3-4 minutes while the current show is on.

a couple of years ago mtv2 was the dogs bollocks, it had a
show with squarepusher choosing his 10 favourate video's.
all the time you'd see loads of cool hip-hop, electro and
techno, sadly it's now kerrang tv 2

You are all forgetting that MTV recorded and aired a live
show and a live interview with the Twin himself.

MTV now is...how can we put it...shit! I only ever used to
watch MTV at midnight when they would play stuff like
Massive Attack, Underworld, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin and The
Prodigy. MTV now is filled to the brim with crap. There is
very little music played on there anymore due to the high
amount of shit such as 'The Real World' filled with ugly
mofo's who need to be kicked up the arse. The best thing
that MTV has is 'Dirty Sanchez' but then need a new series
of that. They used to have Night Videos (which is what i
said about earlier) but they got rid of that and they used
to have Dance floor Chart.

MTV2 on the other hand can be quite nice. Lot's of nice live
shows of bands and at times a few Radiohead things. MTV
Dance is...terrible unless you get people's playlist's.
There was one from Orbital and they chose Aphex's
'Agiespolis' and some Stakker. I MEAN MY GOD, THAT WAS
GREAT.

ive notice something about tv in general. that the idm is
not underground at all, its on alot of channels, during
adverstising or documentaries..ive heard afx a thousand
times and yesterday i heard amon tobin supermodified on a
swiss comic show...the show was funny just because the music
was rockin' :)
thats strange that channels almost never do docs about great
electro djs since they play them all the time

I've never watched MTV. We have a cheaper Canadian
doppleganger, Much Music, plays pretty much the same shit...
literally shit. We also have Much More Music which is more
adult oriented, lots of nostalgia tinged specials and stuff,
quite a bit better. Once they had 48 hours straight of
Beatles.
