I'm pretty sure it can be used in context of lieutenants
and generals.

einsturzende neubauten rocks.
i'm a fan of the guitar personally, had a rock upbringing
and have played for numbers of years. and as far as
reinventing anything, to coin an old phrase "yr only limited
by yr imagination".

Sonic Youth guitar work is great,
when they jam they record, listen back and pick it to peices
to make songs, hence i think this is how their experimental
sound remains in tact. damn they have so many tunings its
like a new guitar for each song.
Steve albini is brilliant, i used to really get into his
stuff of which i hadn't heard in ages, from bigbalck,
rapemen, shellac all of it. he has a unique sound.
i think there is a number of guitarists that i enjoy, though
it is really a big part of my music at the moment i would
like to incorporate it in the future.
i would also like to bring more classicla instruments into
my music, ultimately i'd love an orchestra at my disposal
but that could be a while a way.
I own three guitars, left handed. my fave being a blood red
gibson sg (same as angus youngz - acdc).

pissed and take it personly.

to those who aren't into guitar that much i'd recommend One
Quiet Night by Pat Metheny, his latest album.

it's BEATIFUL. this music proves that guitar is the one and
only thing of this kind.
i do not promise you'll fall in love with the instrument,
but yet you may like it more than before...

I love guitar. I've been playing for nine years.

I've started to type about ten different sentences to begin
to explain why I love it so much, but I can't. I can
truthfully say that if I could only have one thing on a
desert island (bar food and drink, obviously) it would be my
guitar and amp. Okay, that's two things, but you get what I
mean. I've tried to create electronic music, but I feel
limited. I just feel like I can create more effectively
with my guitar.

i feel the same.

playing my guitar is the thing i wouldn't do without,
absolutely...
and i agree with mc_303_beatz, i also feel it's a great
therapy indeed.

Play that rock lead guitar.
Rock it like a magikist
Rock and roll is the joyride music.
Whip that snow leopards ass.

Play that Westone guitar.
Rock it to the break of dawn.
Rock it on the mike in front of 50,000 people.
Rock the jam session on Saddam Hussein.

Play that rock solo as hard as you can.
Make the crown roar like a tidal wave.
Rock the jam session on a good free will.
Whip the hell out of that snow leopard's ass.

TCBY, it's the country's best yogurt.

The worst contribution to rock would have to be the guitar
solo.

Don't bother with a bridge, just fucking wank on your guitar
for 30 seconds until my ear drums rupture and bleed. Most
classic rock guitar solos are fucking hideous.

This is not to say that bands like Radiohead, Sonic Youth,
and the plethora of others who manipulate and harness the
sound properly don't redeem the guitar and its history.

Maybe I'm a sexist pig, but girls with guitars turn me off.
They look good behind pianos or harps though.

OK, I've said enough.

Yeah, I know Ophecks. I can't not think of Cheryl Crow, who
I consider really trashy. Then there's that Courtney Love.

Jimmy Page played a lot of solos and they are fuckin
amazing. Its cock rock 80s pish like Poison and Motley Crew
that ruined guitar solos. Jimmy Page is God!!

Well, Zep WAS the advent of cock rock. ''Squeeze my lemon
till the juice runs down my leg''. And Jimmy even made an
album with David Coverdale of Whitesnake. Ewwwww...

And those are some kewl guitars! lol ^_^

I used to love those cock-rock solos, which is why I dislike
them so much today. I like it when a band has a sound where
all the instruments blend together as a whole, while still
being able to pick out individuals. Solos are far too
self-indulgent. Even the classics, IMO.

Guitar isnt just a mans instrument, theres more country
woman musicians with guitars but its not the same as a man
bringing out his guitar and playing anything you ask of
him..

atgmartin-and two guitars mean double the pleasure :D

Same here. I can hardly sit through a guitar solo nowadays,
even the ones I used to enjoy, unless it's concise and just
compliments the song instead of interrupts it.

The best was those bay area thrash bands like Forbidden,
searing 3+ minute dual leads! My friends and I would clock
our fav bands' solos. Seems so silly now.

hendrix did just to guitar solo's i think and he was an
innovator of his time and also his electronics wizz friend
made some amazing pedals 4 him.
oh and i don't get upset if someone doesn't like guitars
too, different strokes for different folks.

blah, I have to say, I really hate those comments of yours
titsworth... just because someone doesn't like the guitar
sound doesn't make them close minded...

I like the guitar, but I must admit that with it everywhere
and in every single song you here, I'm getting sick of it...
I much prefer more exotic sounding instruments from around
the world...

One thing I do hate is the nu-metal guitar sound that just
sounds like a big brownish wash. No tone, no personality,
just GUNG GUNG GGGGG GWAAAW. Pointless and tuneless.
