I just don't like whiney singers. ;)

I listened to it many times on the radio in the morning and
it made me fall asleep and be late for work more than once.

But hey, people I know, love and respect like that album, it
just isn't for me.

i once decided that i'd never use the "rumba" rhytm again:
it's the easiest there is after just on every beat in a 4/4,
and just doesnt do much, besides being easy to think of.
still it is a nice song, but i mainly think that because
it's the only decent song on the radio (have to listen to
collegue's radio). also i find that guy sincere.
(another rumba-rythm track: rez, underworld, that's prolly
why they never put that on an album, besides the live one (i
believe that's the name of the track))

Why on earth they're compared to Radiohead I have no idea.
Is it cause Chris Martin sometimes sings in falsetto? Well
jesus fuck better lump 300 million other bands in there. The
most obvious comparison is U2, especially AROBTTH which
shamelessly steals riffs and vibes from War and The
Unforgettable Fire. I think they write some ok songs, and
that's about it. They deserve neither to be lauded over like
some cosmic new force or to be hated with a passion. They're
just there.

Oh and the "Good luck with Kid A" statement by Thom Yorke
just shows him up as an even larger self absorbed prick than
I imagined. Good luck with Druqks, fuckwit.

i think some of you are missing the joke with the whole gay
thing.. i know text based mediums impair the effect of a
joke but i think it's obvious that no one really thinks
they're "gay" (come on, chris martin is boffing gwenyth
paltrow, how "gay" is that?). it's a put on, making fun of
testosterone-fueled teens who think anything they dislike
"is gay." at least that's how i've taken this thread.

cs2x, avatar... also a joke

are you trying to say radiohead are emulating aphex? i mean
i guess that's a good retort to the whole coldplay are
radiohead wannabes thing, if you're making the point that
"radiohead are aphex twin wannabes" is an equally unfounded
and off the mark analogy, but to me the coldplay thing seems
dead on. i think the best evidence of their biting would be
their performance at this year's grammy's (download it..).
chris martin gets on stage and mimes thom yorke movement for
movement, syllable for syllable. to me it's blatant.

Describe some of the similarities in the "movement" too, I'm
curious.

politik(s?).. just look at chris playing the piano, he
mimicks thom to the T. my girlfriend, who is a coldplay fan,
agreed when she saw it that he's totally pretending to be
thom.

I'm sorry I find this really funny. There's not much range
for "movement" when you're sitting down, using both your
hands and having to sing into a mike is there? I take it his
head was rolling side to side and he had his eyes shut and
stuff. Well jebus, call the karma police. And call David
Gray too, that fucker does the same thing.

Maybe he does take little bits from Yorke, but I can say
I've never spotted any, and Coldplay and Radiohead are on
MTV2 in heavy rotation here, mainly half hour live sets. You
must be looking really hard. And like I said, there's
not much room for doing anything, unless you're Little
Richard or summat.

I don't know why anyone would copy Yorke in the first place
as Radiohead are one of the least interesting bands visually
I've seen. Even Martin jumps about with his acoustic guitar.

coldplay are excellent... I have both cds of theirs, and
both are quality releases... hey, so they might not be
totally innovative and brilliant, but who cares? They're
beautiful, and touching... and full of emotion... ain't that
what counts?

who cares who they copy live? And really, how can you say
that someone jumping around, or the way they play piano is
copying someone else? That's just retarded... the fact of
the matter is, Coldplays music doesn't soiund like
Radioheads music... and the music is what matters right?

ok, did you see the performance clip or NOT? now, i speak my
mind on things, but i'm not audacious enough to speak on
something i've never seen or read.

some of coldplay's songs that i've heard are directly
inspired by (to put it euphemistically) the bends. so
are a lot of bands, but don't you think it's just a little
interesting how so many people pin this radiohead thing on
them? there's obviously something to it. coldplay themselves
have never hidden the fact that they're at the very least
big admirers of radiohead. to me this isn't a big deal, but
i just think people should hone up to the influence
radiohead have had on them.

like 'God Put A Smile On Your Face'. Get a fucking lawsuit

And I really think you're nitpicking here Tits, like mullet
man said the music is what counts and there's only basic
similarity as far as I can see. And maybe those Radiohead
comparisons are prevelent in US media but they all died once
Coldplay's second album came out here.

and yes, coldplay sound a bit like radiohead in the sense
that all rock bands sound a bit like each other because they
use the same instruments... if you use guitars, bass and
drums, you're bound to sound like another band using the
same instruments obviously...

as far as similar melodies, I have all the radiohead albums,
and have listened to them plenty, and I have both coldplay
albums and a single, and have listened to those plenty, and
I really haven't noticed or thought "Whoa, that's a
radiohead melody there!!"...

i didn't say they borrowed a melody, just some songs are
very much in the bends style

well yeah, probably... because Coldplay do softer, more
melodic rock... and The Bends is fairly soft melodic rock as
well... so, they're bound to sound similar... doesn't mean
Coldplay is stealing from Radiohead though...

I think Coldplay is good music... but i have to admit their
music is damned depressing. I don't really like pop music
though, personally. Coldplay, however, is far more bearable
than a lot of other groups considered pop.

maybe it was hearing a few coldplay songs on repeat over,

again (for work) that made me loathe them.

i donno, i just cringe now whenever i hear the guy's voice.

I don't think they're that bad. Now that they're popular, of
course everybody is going to be hating on them. They're
decent for what they are, I like their production values. I
liked the singer's collaboration with Ron Sexsmith, cheesy
as it was.

Chris Martin is marrying Gwyneth Paltrow... she went from

coldplay wouldnt receive the attention they're getting now
if it weren't for ms. paltrow, by the way. thanks to the
yentas of the world/industry.

coldplay is completely and utterly derivative.. but a bland
derivative. it's like someone spilled a radiohead drink and
the carpet beneath soaked up some of the liquid and melted
ice, but none of the flavor. they are professional radiohead
fans. they will never be so bold as to go off in their own
direction because, well they TAKE direction.

the kid a comment was fucking hilarious.. as was the drukqs
one.. but the latter is a bit off because they're
(radiohead) using some aphex/autechre influence to
ADVANCE/progress the genre they're working in.. they're not
completely aping their sound! on the contrary... and it's an
admirable thing to do. if they didn't, they'd be stuck doing
what they'd already done very well, just not as well this
time around. u2(1997), flaming lips, radiohead.. these are
the rock bands that should be celebrated right now. they
know the direction in which the next step should be taken.

coldplay is bland, second/third-rate bend-era horseshit. if
you disagree with me you're wrong.. and gay

Couldn't have said it any better than Jarworski has put it.
But, let me point this out to ya. You Lemmings seem to be (I
take this from your posts) the sortof peeps who will hate
good music, if it gets played just once, on mtv or the
radio. Well get over it quick. As the human race progresses
technologicaly, they're will be less work, and more play,
leading to increase in leasure time to listen to music. So,
your precious underground movement, that you so love to keep
your dicks in all the time, will be found by the rest of the
world. What will you do then? Hate the existance of music
it's self? I hope not. You see, you people have gotten so
involved in judging music that you don't take any time to
appreciate it anymore. All music at some level will start to
sound the same, there is no infinite number of diffrent
songs that can be produced. So I suggest you start to know
and love the ones that make ya feel good now. Who gives a
fuck if you hate the band, if the music is good, listen to
it. I hate fucking radiohead, met them in person in LA, and
all of them are ego trip assholes that hate anything
human...But you know what, I love there fucking music. Got
every album, and tickets to their shorline amp appearence
this year. Just ask your self this, if they started playing
radiohead on the radio, mtv, bet, nbc, appeared on a now cd,
and a kids bop one too, you name it; and everyone was
singing their songs, and going fucking bonkers over them,
would you still like there music, or hate them for all
they're worth?
