The fact that the girls are 12 or 13 doesn't make it 'wrong'. (Though I want to add a word before 'wrong' but can't think what it should be: maybe 'ethically' or 'morally' but they don't seem right) The rules of society; of civilisation determine what is right and wrong from a moral standpoint. The law decides what's right and wrong from a legal standpoint and the two don't always tally. Then there's the phsyical reality. Say a TV news item tells of a 14 year old girl made pregnant by her 14 year old boyfriend. Social services get involved, and the public go 'tsk, in this day and age, kids today' etc, and roll their eyes. A 25 year old man has a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl and he is charged with having illegal sex with a minor and sent to prison. The public go nuts and brand the guy a paedophile. Which is wrong? From a phsycial viewpoint there's nothing wrong with either. Both people involved in either case are capable of being mature enough to handle it and both are capable of being parents. The girl can be physically able to bear children with no ill effects. Today's society says that an adult having sexual relations with a minor is illegal though, so from a legal standpoint it's wrong. The law sets the age limits and consequences. From a moral standpoint it's also wrong simply because society has grown with these rules. People have come to accept it as wrong. Now... where it should be wrong is where the girl/boy is too young to make their own informed and mature judgement on any actions they may be involved in. But it varies from person to person. Which is why the law stepped in with a standard age. I'm not sure where I'm going with this... I'm just rambling. |
