I don't personally understand how some of this can be called
brilliant music... if a song is just composed of a few notes
which repeat for 10 minutes, how is that genius? It might
sound pretty, but really what is so hard about that?

I see you're viewpoint, but it's a matter of opinion.
imo it's great.

who ever said that to be genious something had to be
complicated?
where i see it as genious is because it's really different
than the music of it's time, you can lose yourself totaly in
it yet having your thought not too much affected by it...
and it's repetitive on purpose, so it's not a case of hard
to do or not, it won't have the same effect if
non-repetitive
the genious is also to make music like he wanted and not
like people wanted (especially SIRE who was right fucked
with the non-womercial succes of SAWII)
anyway this is all IMO off course

SAWII is the universe burned on to two plastic discs...the
music is just beyond perception.

Along with Classics, it's my favourite Aphex album.

never had sex with saw 2.i'll try.
anyway if it would be more complex it would lose his ipnotic
quality, draft is complex but really doesn't go anywhere.
now i'm listening to it again in these days this is the
music that represents me really.
listening to cd2 song 3.

i dont really care what an album was like at the time, right
now it sounds dated to me, the sounds are primitive and that
annoys me too much for me to be relaxed by it...some tracks
are ok, esp cd2trk10 and the last track on cd1, but most
tracks i never listen to, they are just plain boring...then
again almost no music relaxes me and i dont want it to, i
dont spend money on something so i can go to sleep and not
notice its there... :P

so 1994 (?) is already dated?

that must limit your musical horizons quite a bit... =/

fingerbib or yellow calx? obviously not cuz they are very
relaxing.

"I don't personally understand how some of this can be

which repeat for 10 minutes, how is that genius?"

He manages to repeat a few notes for 10 minutes and it
*still* sounds brilliant. That's how it's genius.

I allways find it hard to describe SAW2 in words, but it is
without a doubt another reason why I believe that less can
be more, (I find that it's not just about the postive space
but the negative as well)

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2003-05-21 10:11 [#00708319]

well, it's alright... I just listened to cd2 while reading a
chapter for class, and it was kinda nice... but it seems
that most people enjoy it most as background music... and
for that I would agree, it is nice... but as music to
demands concentration, I would say this isn't it... just my
opinion obviously...

One time I was listening to stone in focus and the whole
world started to move in slow motion, my thoughts ran a mile
a minute though. It passed eventually. It was really
exciting though

I find SawII to be a very spiritual musical experience.
There's something eternal about those songs, the simplicity
just adds to the overall effect. It's like floating through
space, watching the universe change around you. Definetly
the most essential music I own, a sure fire deserted island
selection.

I really like this album a lot but I find it hard to listen
to it only because I like listening to the full album (cd 1
followed by cd 2) and that takes quite a while but its a
wonderful experience.

oh man, here's my SAW2 story: Was at uni, went to an all
night party in the woods where they set up 20ft speakers and
2 djs and a generator. Goes on usually for about 2-3 days
none stop. Anyway, took lots and lots of drugs, stayed for 2
days, came home and listened to tracks 1 & 3 on disc 1 and
track 1 on disc2. Everytime i hear those now, man, the
fucking memories.

I'd wish that Venetian Snares and Aphex would release
something togeter. I believe that would be interesting. ^_^

The second track of the second disc is one of my favs.

This is my favorite ambient record. Drukqs is my favorite
'active listening' record.

album... and I prefer that one for active listening as
well...

26 mixes)

ok, so I've been enjoying SAW2 a lot more these last couple
days... strange how music can grow on you, and all of a
sudden make sense... not saying it has totally, just saying
that I'm enjoying it more... :)

you're only enjoying it more because you see so many people
talk about it. you wonder why you cant enjoy this album if
so many other people can so you decide to force yourself to
enjoy it, and now you're getting there. funny innit? :P

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2003-05-23 19:32 [#00712149]

well no... I've seen people talk about it, and from
expressing my negative views about it I decided to give it
another listen... I've tried to listen to it differently
then I usually do... usually I'll focus in on certain parts
of a song, like a bass part or whatever... recently I've
been trying to just take the song as a whole... and I've
enjoyed Draft 7.30 and this one now, more because of that...
