As for a specific song that isn't on one of their albums,
but actually on Wipeout XL, d/l 'Landmass.'

A sweet ass tune.

i guess it's no more dated than Lifeforms as they are
leftovers from that album.

how does it compare with lifeforms?

Tales Of Ephidrina isn't Lifeforms leftovers, considering it
was released a year before...
It was released to give Virgin an idea of what to expect
from FSOL in the future.

Soundwise, it's a suitable cross between Accelerator and
Lifeforms. Whilst it contains decent track merges (unlike
the random bursts of sound on Accelerator), and some of
their most sublime ambient moments (notably 'Mountain
Goat'), many of the tracks are more...techno based. 'Liquid
Insects', 'Ephidrina' and 'Auto Pimp' all have hard kicking
techno beats. Ish. A lot more like Accelerator.

It's a fantastic album, and its main downfall is its length,
clocking in at forty-something minutes.

I absolutely hated Accelerator, almost gave up on fsol after
that. This sounds good though, a slightly more techno
version of lifeforms doesn't sound bad at all.

whats wrong with 40 something minutes anyway? thats sounds
fine for an album.

40 minutes can be good. But I feel it needs something more.
At only 8 tracks, it feels almost like an EP rather than an
album.

I'm just picky. You'll like it a lot more than Accelerator.

not necessarily leftovers, but more tracks that didnt fit in
with the overall lifeforms project...its sorta like the
one-off tracks they made during the lifeforms sessions, but
they didnt exactly fit..
