all what i say is: don't buy a hardware sampler! software
does it all, and much much easier and better. with a
hardware sampler you will have a physical and virtual space
problem, you need an external sequencer, you'll need a midi
knowledge in a wide range, i had the akai s2000 and i can
tell you, you're fucked without the 8 analog output
extension board, akai doesn't support those old crap
anymore.

about drummachines: i have the dr770, it's an allround
machine with a crappy non-graphic internal sequencer, i use
it just for live gigs, but better you make your own
experience, and you'll see that hardware is more difficult
than software.

....you could also build your own drummachine using modular
analogue gear(Doepfer etc...) that would be very flexible
and high quality.... but expensive...

S2000 is old and crap. you need about 3 of them to do
anything decent. get the S5000 or S6000.
S5000 has 8 outs, S6000 has 16. plus ide of scsi internal
hard disk. and a nice big screen and lots of
features....basically what im saying is buy a hardware
sampler :P it never crashes. you can press buttons and
twiddle knobs touch it etc. no crap mouse interface. lots of
cables can be plugged into it you can warm your hands over
the air vents on cold winter days. what more can i say?

the roland r8 is a good drum machine, in fact, i have one
i'm looking to sell!

it's in perfect condition, and it includes the "jazz" card.
i need to sell it though because i'm moving to thailand for
a year and i can't bring it with me. i'll be going the
software route for a while.

i'm also looking to sell a yamaha rm1x and a nord 2 rack
synth. if anyone's interested, mail me at
thekarmabums@hotmail.com

interface ? have fun :P

knob boxes)

I know, but a lot of acts still prefer performance synths
for the keyboard parts. Also, I meant for all music with
electronic elements, not just IDM. Eg will keyboard players
in rock bands be using midi keyboards and powerbooks? Will
you see them playing backing on top of the pops?
