something being special has nothing to do with some
objective comparison. it has everything to do with the
listeners experience. which means that "nothing special
really" really means"nothing special really to me"

as far as IDM's future, we won't see it coming until it
hits. no one really saw confield coming.
i would really like something with melody though, because i
seem to be one of the few who simply doesn't enjoy confield.
i understand it all well and good, and i respect it from an
academic standpoint, but that isn't enough for me.
who knows what the future of IDM is? its amazing to think
that at some point someone as prolific as aphex twin will
come along and make a string of classic albums, but who
knows when that will happen. frankly, who cares?

err yeah um thanks your're very wise - ok if you've ever
listened to any of the people i 've mentioned it sounds tame
, ok?

"Squarepusher hit a creative brick wall"

Why's that? I think many people agree "do you know
squarepusher" is one of his best tracks ever. The ep itself
isn't so great... but then again, i think none of his ep's
are that great. Squarepusher seems to be an artist that
prefers to put album-leftovers on ep's or something ;-) All
his ep's that i've heard (maximum priest, redhot car,
budakhan mindphone, dyks) have only 1 or 2 great tracks and
lots of filler. He's much more an "album artist".

the future of IDM is all this stuff that's getting passed
off as "IDM pop" ms. john soda, dntel, postal service, etc.

oh and prefuse 73 will end up producing the next destiny's
child album

i doubt idm will ever go mainstream. even the tamest stuff
sounds "weird" to people who enjoy pop music

Zaphod - I agree with you on the melody part of things...
where has it gone? You get vague little tunes coming in and
out here and there... but I want MORE.

Melody = Cheesey = instantly boring = crap = forgotton
about.

Confield = revolutionary.

come on, rephlex has by far the best artists on the scene -
something different, progressive, sometimes quirky but very
entertaining. anything else compared is rubbish.

something.

Meam could be the new 'bright young things' of IDM.

Or not, I have no idea really.

well, i'll check some of your list out. i just can't
imagine that it would somehow lessen my pleasure in
confield.

I thought DYKSP sucked. The title track is great! But even
that's old. Liked it better when it was a single and I
thought that his next album would sound similar... instead
he puts out crap. I liked Anstrom Feck a lot at first, but
that track doesn't have staying power. Doesn't stand up to
the tracks from Go Plastic. The live disc... totally
useless.

But I guess it wasn't really much of a full ''LP'' effort...
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's got
better things up his sleeve.

''Musique Concrete''... blech.

not trying to dog you or anything, or be negative

have you considered making electronic music of your own? or
started projects inspired by IDM? maybe iut's just growing
stale in your brain

sometimes i have to take a break from certain albums, songs,
and types of music or else it goes stale. there's all kinds
of other music you can listen to.

sometimes trying to make music can allow you appreciate the
music you listen to more, beacuse you realize how bad you
are at it

especially types of artists like AE and aphex, and plaid and
shit...

the music cannot be imitated, it comes straight from the
brains. the shit has too much style.

music has changed, only my tastes havent.

i think i do understand, and it's just an unfortunate thing
that artists use new tools and things to execute the beats
cuts and synth that makes their songs -- and when this
happens it sounds different

that's really fine. im trying not to sound like a giant
combustible ass myself. i only think it's wrong to outright
say "the future of idm is bleak"....

its bound to stir up arguments and such, all of your points
are valid though, i still think i knwo what you're talking
about
