pretty stupid name... kinda like IDM as it kind seems to say that non-emo rock is unemotional...

That's the problem with genre titles. 'Emo', 'IDM' etc. they're too literal. Music should be something else, it's good or bad. Loads of 'IDM' is really un-IDM. copying or using tricks that doesn't need intelligence to make or listen to.
Jazz and 'rock 'n' roll' make more sense as it doesn't litterally mean anything.
I could get emotional with the cheeky girls or alanis if I tried.

no, just because, for example, A has a certain characteristic does not automatically exclude B from being able to have the same characteristic.
to say emo is "emotional rock" means all music in this category is both rock and known for it's emotional content. it does not imply that all other rockmusic then cannot or even does not have emotional content. reasoning like that is absurd.

most "IDM" is just popsongs without vocals and slightly tweaked sounds.
Warp tried pushing on ELM at one point, meaning "electronic listening music".

'ELM', OBE, it's all rubbish really. if cinemas/films were distributed more in that way it'd be sad. Soo many film missed.

how is it any different from IDM? IDM is intelligent dance music, and it has been said here by many people that it's a stupid name because it's almost implying that it's more intelligent then other styles... so I was just comparing emo to idm because calling a style of music "emotional" music is the same as idm in this sense, in that it's saying it's more emotional then other music... which is pretty stupid thing to say...
how is that absurd?

simply because it is not saying that. it is stating two things the music in this genre must conform to.
further consequences for other genres stem solely from your interpretation.
I do see your point on comparing it to IDM, but that is different, I think. "intelligent" is a strange word to use in defining music anyway, whereas "emotional" seems more in place.
in the end it is ofcourse all crap, but that's beside the point. :)

ooooh okay.
I do like their stuff. although it does get to sound a bit the same after a while.
I remember my brother seeing them live and afterwards saying to me that what we both had thought were guitarsounds on the cd, actually was the leadsinger singing. we were amazed, I can tell you!
