Its not that the old testament contradicts the new... although it does. Its that the teachings throughout the bible in both testaments contradict each other.

I know, but surely something in say, Job, overwrites something in Judges as it's more recent?

What?! By that arguement we should only read Revelation cos thats the most uptodate.
Its like saying that what God (apparently) said in one book is not really what he meant to say, what he meant to say was what he said later on. No Christian could accept that.
They could maybe accept that things written a very long time ago may have little to do with modern society... but your one book over writes another argument won't stand up my friend

A lot of religious scholars dismiss the Revelation of Saint John as either:
The rablings of someone on ergot (common in palestine/jerusalem at that time)
The views of a madman.
Actually an early (Damn, what's the name, I think it's cirillic- an early form of Christianity) text that has no place in the bible.
Still, it's good for a laugh anyway and the end of days sounds like a whole barrel of fun.

don't take the bible so literally
the magic of the bible lies in the ideas
the stories are there only to make the idea clear
and you can't really disagree with them
