don't you guys see the correlation between you giving/sending these girls these music and their liking it? you'd be safe if she already liked it. it doesn't mean anything if she's introduced to it to you and immediately says she likes it. check back with her in a few months to see which cd's she's bought.

just a dose of harsh reality a lot of people on this board don't want to hear. i think more often than not that's the girl's way of saying the music isn't "bad" (ie: it's bearable) but more importantly she wants to tell the guy that she accepts his musical taste and that it wouldn't be a burden in their friendship or romance.
of course, occasionally girls really DO get hooked on idm. that's why i said, time will tell...

I agree tits. Girls you introduce to this type of stuff won't like it 95% of the time. I try not to expose them to it at all because it's bound to happen. Not tosay their bad people, it's just IDM is fundamentally something that prolly won't be liked immediately. My couson and I played some mouse on mars for our friend one time and she was like 'ooh I like it! I like that drop noise!' so she listened to it a bunch of times. It could happen though. I have this other friend who played Drukqs for some of these girls at his school and he said one of them loved it and asked to borrow it and wrote poems or pictures or something to every track! So, I'm not really sure. But then, he loves to give unneeded exposure to bands I like almost just to frustrate me. Like playing Geogaddi before a church youth thing and Drukqs in athletics class during workout.. arg! :)

DM (how i hate that term) takes patience and time to "like".... no matter how much you want to show this girl the treasures that are Confield and Gantz Graf... DONT DO IT, they arent ready! And many sadly never will be :(

My g/f never heard Aphex Twin before cos' she mostly listens to bands like Korn,Nightwish,Garbage,Portishead,DJ Shadow and such...so i let her down easy and played "Digeridoo" at first, then moved on to "On" and "SAW 85-92". And now she likes it almost as much as i do...next i'll throw some Squarepusher on her way.

that's an exception to the rule.. if she already likes electronic-y stuff like dj shadow, portishead, and garbage (hell, even korn's most recent albums have been electronic-y) then it's quite sensible to introduce them to idm. :) what squarepusher are you going to play for her? i recommend feed me weird things or perhaps even better for her (as a trip-hop fan), music is rotted one note.

Yes, I suppose that'd be sort of a twin...
To be exactly the same she'd need the same experiences, but it's suprising how much is in your genes. It'd be cool to clone yourself at the age you were and just flip the chromosome (wait, wouldn't only women be able to do this as they could destroy the female chromosome in their clone and therefore become male?). Mind you, if they had your memories etc. they'd probably be gay, unless you were, then they'd be straight...
Okay, so, you'd need to be a gay woman and make an exact clone of yourself for it to work. Back to the drawing board...
Anyone see the red dwarf episode where Rimmer tried this?

this thread is insane! :-p It's almost like you're all saying girls are "incomplete" until they start listening to IDM. It's so incredibly shallow to think of a plan for making her like the same music as you :-/
My horoscope once told me: "your idea of what love is, is based on what you've seen in romantic movies"... Alot of people have an idea in their head about what their relationships should be like, and then they try to find the right person to fit into that fantasy.
I say just live your life and be happy, eventually you will meet a girl who likes you for what you are (because you are just doing what you want, not hunting for relationships), and if all goes well a relationship will develop. It might be entirely different from what you expected it to be... but that doesn't matter :-)
Maybe your girlfriend will someday teach you to like other music besides IDM... maybe she will make you love Sinatra's music :-p Who knows? No-one ever said IDM was the best music in the world... just with all the music i've heard, I really like it. Doesn't mean everybody else has to aswell...

Maybe you could create a room for yourself (like also put the computer there, and call it the "computer-room")... make sure the room has a good door that can close properly... and then you can still listen to all your favorite music without her going crazy from the noise ;-)
Well ofcourse it doesn't always work, i imagine you'll also be spending alot of time together, lol. But still... there'll still be plenty of hours where you can play what you like.

george, i'm just playing devil's advocate here. it's not how i feel but i could easily see how someone could think that. compared to other types of music it (eg: central and south american native music) IS boring, pointless, cold, and downright unlistenable. there are exceptions (some afx, some boc) but for the most part, we as idm fans are conditioned into finding the inner beauty of the music.
to clarify, i don't actually judge anything based on what other people (especially "The Majority") believe, i just wanted to throw that opinion out there in context of why you can't expect to find or seek out girls who like idm. they exist, but 1) they're rare, and 2) their taste in music shouldn't be something that influences your heart. it's a bonus, not a requirement.

And don't follow my advice iroel :-p lol, it hasn't worked for me at all yet! But i'm still curious what kind of a relationship you're searching for then? I still believe it's the wrong order to first make a "checklist" of what you want in a girl, and then go searching for one that matches it... as i see it that can only lead to dissapointment and frustration :-/

oh okay, in that case i actually agree with you! The political correct part of me is just itching to protest against the theory that most girls don't like idm... ;-)hehe... but one need only take a quick look at the members-list of this mb to see that it's actually a fact that idm is mostly listened to by males... weird.
I can pretty much see what you're saying... what your average listener might think of this type of music. But it puzzles me why there aren't an equal amount of males and females who can enjoy it.
"2) their taste in music shouldn't be something that influences your heart. it's a bonus, not a requirement."
Yes :-) Exactly! That's what bothered me about this thread... there's just something wrong about specifically searching for someone who likes idm. (or trying to convert them).

Yeah, i i think that's really cool mr. fish! Ever since i've read a review about one of sinatra's albums that said: "and believe me dear reader, there will come a time in your life when this is the only album in the whole world that can help you"... i've been intruiged by him. But still haven't gotten around to actually giving him a listen... will do, someday :-)
