it is quite possible for people to overcome depression and
never see it again

i'm trying my best to help a girl i know feel better, she
went through harsh depression and was into cutting..i'm sure
completely she can only fix things herself, but i will try
to the best of my abilities..It's strange though, it's like
we're in two different worlds in the mood thing, like i used
to feel that way to a degree, now i'm fine, but it's like
i'm entering a world i remember somewhat, and trying to
still remain safe..zeus, i'm glad you've been taking steps,
i wish you the best man :)

I think I have that SAD thing, Social Anxiety Disorder... in
fact, I DEFINITELY have it, no doubt. I'm almost happy being
miserable, though... :-) :-(

HUH!?

zeus, yeah, it's strange too since she's 15 and i'm 18, but
i can relate to her still, she seems a bit more mature
(though she's still quite silly in ways) than most
girls..she likes radiohead too, haha, which is cool..I think
i used to have some sort of anxiety disorder or still do, i
used to go to school in grade 8 and 9 and every morning
pretty much, be quite sick, and then i think i started
worrying about the fact that i might be sick at school,
which probably made it worse..i hated that

acctually its seasonal affective disorder.

it means during winter you get very depressed, and in
summer, you are mostly happy.

i dont know why though....

but as far a social... im kinda anti social... and i get
panic attacks alot when in large crowds...

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-06-20 00:15 [#00275864]

oh, and a good thing to do...

exercise... move about... do stuff

its hard when you are really depressed... but if you can get
into it, it helps alot

me and my dad made a pact this summer to get in shape and
work out.
we do it everyday. weights one day, cardio the next, and so
on

i feel alot better and more confident.

1. becasue exercise releases endorphines that make you
happy
2. because i look better, and feel better about myself.

something to do with lack of sunlight resulting in not
enough 'happy' chemicals (serotonin?) f*cking with the brain
....will check out my medical cd if U want me to (and the
def.of 'depression')...or go screw with 'Google'!).}:>

I thought SAD was Social Anxiety Disorder... I definitely
have THAT. Well, either way, you've made me cry and I'm off
to hang myself. :_-(

Is depression contagious? Does hanging around depressed
people make you depressed? Is there a psychological virus?

I don't, I'm not bragging about it, but I am an exception to
your theory. I sometimes sit and listen to records just
staring at the wall, but I've never really suffered from any
kind of serious depression.

i've had clinical depression since childhood but wasn't
diagnosed until recently, i'm now 25 and just started
Celexa, an antideppresant, and Zyprexa, an antipsychotic, 6
months ago. These make a world of difference for me. I can
do things now that I couldn't before such as feel more
comfortable around people.

I spend my days in rumination thinking about what could have
been... Chewing on shadows. It's like an great black
buzzard on my back, flapping and spitting, squawking nasty
things in my ears and digging it's talons into my
shoulders.

We need to stick together lads!

It would be nice to have an edit function for those of us
that are anal about that sort of thing. By the way, nice
avatar Crocomire, can't wait until Metroid IV comes out for
Gameboy Advance.

suffering from 'depressive illness' for 8 years
i guess its never gonna go away

ive seen
6 psychiatrists
3 councellors

ive taken 6 different anti-depressants
i was on chlorpromazine*** (major tranquilizer) for 4 years
i have also had ECT 6 times
and also takes lithium twice

i have also been sectioned twice (urgh)

its a killer, i grant you that

i dunno really what to say excpet it DOES get better
although i'm hardly an advertisement for complete recovery

i really don't usually share this shit with anyone but i
guess if anyone learns anything from what i've said then its
been worth it

i don't wanna say too much more but i only hope that this
community can bring like minded people together to share
their experiences in the hope that we will all eventually
figure out what exactly is really going on in 'our' world

stay together people, all is not lost

I don't have a depression. I'm 25 years old, doing a
research degree and trying to find a nice part time job too,
while I feel like I'm floating over time and I can't change
dat. I'm mostly very freakin' tired... anyway...

I'm depressed because I think about how fucked and trash the
world is and become very sad, and I become angry at most of
the people I meet because they are such fucking lame idiots
that have no idea how trite their bullshit is. Most of the
people I've met here are not like that however, guess thats
why I've been spending so much time here as of recently... I
don't really know if this qualifies as being clinically
depressed, i doubt it, but I have felt this way for more
than a couple of months tho so who knows?

clinical depression is a physical phenomenon, not mental. if
you're not clinically depressed, just down because of
circumstance and you take the antidepressant i'm on it will
have no effect on you. just a factoid for ya.
