PModVancouver - are you saying that until 1969(ish), there
was no intelligence in music? no intellectuals? that's a
pile of shit.

chapman, my IQ is over 150, don't make me a genius - the IQ
system is mostly redundant and discredited anyway!

Genius, according to Mensa, is one who scores better than
98% of the population on a standardized IQ test. Thus, one
in fifty people are geniuses.

reducing the level of genius to an arbitrary figure is
bullshit - like the statistic that 10% of the population is
homosexual...since when did mensa decide the definition of a
word?

Yeah, but genius comes in many different forms, I think its
too hard to gauge

Brian Eno: "truly an authority on
how life and society works, thats why hes constantly being
asked by even governments for info on this and that, and
gives lectures about the cybernetics and dynamics of life as

we know it"

huh??

Eno is a very clever guy...

Check out his book A Year (with Swollen Apendices) ...
ISBN 0-571-17995-9 ...
...

Lovely diary format detailing what's he up to (more exciting
that it sounds) & lots of his Essays/Writing as the Swollen
Appendices of the title...

Highly recommended...my copy is a bit tatty now as I've
re-read it so many times...

Cool thread BTW...

yea i've heard of that book - i have liked eno's music for
about 10 years - i like the way he has his special cards to
throw some unpredictability into some of his works

Well, when I was 12 it was, almost everything was 'gay'

ah those were the days, when even if you weren't gay you'd
get a cartel of kids coming to find you to kick your head
in.

There is potential "genius" in ever single being. To say
somebody is genius is only to recognize the genius within
them. When I hear a piece of music that blows me away,
moves me, or sends me into ecstatic release, I may exclaim
"that's genius!" This does not necessarily mean that the
artist is an example of pure genius, just means that I
recognized their genius in that moment. Some people,
artists, scientists, philosphers, whatever, take greater
holf of their personal genius and let shine throught more
than other's. I am pure genius; I just haven't figured out
how to let it out yet.

yes it is as 'genius' implies perfection and no one is
perfect unfortunately (that is if youre refering to someone
being a 'genus'. da vinci was heraled as a genius, because
of his inventions. did you know he invented/came up with a
design for the helicopter? except he intended for it to be
built out of solid mahogany. genious smenious.

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2002-04-22 14:39 [#00189156]
Points: 24578 Status: Lurker | Followup to KEN: #00189022

i think everyone knows he invented a helicopter, KEN - it is
lauded about most times da vinci is mentioned on the
television!

anyways, the pure meaning of genius is unconnected with the
physical being - it applies to a separate entity - as in, a
piece may be a work of genius, but the human
writer/recepticle isn't a genius, even if they are 'touched'
by genius.

In my case yes. People are always lauding me as a genius,
especially at work. They stand in awe at the way I input
register marks into our database.

Marlowe: the term genius is connected with persons, not
their products, and it implies that this person has the
ability of making those "mental links" that the rest of us
aren't

speak for yourself, meho - i have no problem making a
"mental link" with Universe. and actually, the word genius
can be connected with a person's product - why not
look at some of j s bach's fugues for instance.
