if he did deny a genocide that is truly despicable, but i didnt see explicitly where he denied it, he just seemed to be quibbling about the definition of genocide which he seems to constitute wholesale ethnic cleansing, I dont know on such a serious issue id have to talk directly to the guy himself to see what he though

truth is when i get into these highly charged contested debates over serious matters, like the legitimacy of Israel and stuff like genocide i zone out as i quite clearly am not qualified to deliver an opinion, there is so many thinly veiled agendas to smear each other i just loose interest, because arguments are put across with such subjective viewpoints

Well i would talk it about it more, but i sense im just going to be told im talking bollocks i mean what is your political viewpoint? I dont mean to offend you because outside of politics we seem to get on fine, you seem more conservative minded to me, (i might be utterly wrong) but if we arent going to see eye to eye from basic precepts we are just going to have a upsetting argument and I dont really want to argue

yes thats my criticism of Chomsky, he is so eager to blame american foreign policy (most of the time correctly) that he cant see the wood from the trees
He is intellectually dishonest on this issue it seems, your right to point his hypocrisy out. Im not one of his acolytes but I wouldn't dismiss everything he has wrote based on this, as I cant expect him to be right on everything, although this seems quite a large 'oversight' as it were

"He has criticized Noam Chomsky's support for the Khmer Rouge. “While my family worked and died in rice fields,” Ear said, “Chomsky sharpened his theories and amended his arguments while seated in his armchair in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I believe that he would probably have me blame the Americans and their bombs for causing everything around the Khmer Rouge to go wrong.” Ear has said that “perhaps someday Chomsky will acknowledge his ‘honest errors’ in his memoirs, speaking of the burdens of academia and the tragic irony of history. His victims, the peasants of Indochina, will write no memoirs and will be forgotten. They will be joined by his North Korean and Bosnian victims…For decades, Chomsky has vilified his critics as only a world class linguist can. However, for me and the surviving members of my family, questions about life under the Khmer Rouge are not intellectual parlour games."
i found this on the wiki of that guy you mentioned, quite sober reading

"What's the main difference between these two? Chomsky with all his book-learning has only ever propounded one idea -- American imperialism is responsible for all the world's woes, whereas Hitchens' erudition encompasses so many as to boggle the mind. As Hitchen's says, "This is the sum total of what has been learned, by the guru of the left, in the last decade."

I like Hitchens more simply because he is more persuasive in his arguments and has a sense of humor, he certainly had an arrogant streak as well, but every public intellectual has pros and cons i guess, i dont slavishly follow any ideology really, thats the key i guess
