lol

FLAC can lick your balls?

the only justifiable reason you could possible have to hate
FLAC is that it's not universally supported by all music
players (software or hardware).

as a distribution method, FLAC is the single greatest thing
to happen to digital music. it's lossless compression. so
your huge wav files can be squashed to probably about half
the size, makes it quicker to distribute and is less taxing
on your archive device.

it takes maybe 3 minutes to decode FLAC files into wavs, if
you even have to decode them in the first place.

no it's not.

I love the sound of mp3s.

Are you trying to tell me that I'm wrong?

I'm not wrong.

I don't tell people that they are wrong for listening to
noisy vinyl or casettes or enjoying music made with noisy
analog synths.

SO LET ME ENJOY MY MP3S YOU BUNCH OF SADISTS

not universally supported = forget it

also you have a wav original. leave it as a wav.
you are encoding vinyl or cd. keep it wav.
wav is better than flac. in 5 years time a wav will not be
big, already it is only medium sized. and optimum orig
quality. if it aint broke dont try and fix it.

only analog vinyl/tape can be argued to be better than wav.

flac is not BETTER. you can argue it is as good or smaller
but who cares.
the only question is the minimum qualioty of the wav.
44.1 is just good enough (not really) but we are stuck with
it so far.
my point is don't needlessly develop standards or encode it
further. a custom cd-r still has special useage value. have
you not noticed the butterfly effect all around us in this
decade, especially recently, music, choice, society,
quality...
this is the evolution and organisation and hope of the human
race we are really talking about. george orwell where r u?

PS: you can make your own mp3's/flac etc from wavs if u
want, fair enuf to like lo bit rate but top quality should
not be foresaken.

Saying you prefer mp3s strikes me as the same as saying your
favorite taste is "the glue on envelopes" (over prime rib,
say). There's nothing wrong with that, it's just rarely
thought of in its own right and was never intended to be an
improvement on anything else.

make your wav's from flac then!?
but you won't catch me doin it, and you shouldn't,
forget FLAC it's silly
cut your vinyl from FLAC hmm
48k much better really, 96k, 192k, 10,000 bit resolution as
much as poss... but the day is here finally that wav can and
should take over from mp3's ubiquitousness and people can
encode from it what they like/as they prefer

you really are not understanding the point here

FLAC is exactly the same as a wav file, it's
just a smaller file size.

given the choice over spending more time/bandwidth
downloading a track, or less time/bandwidth downloading a
track, you would choose the longest and most time consuming
method?

again, just to re-iterate because you really do seem to be
having a problem with this fact:

FLAC IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS A WAV, JUST SMALLER FILE
SIZE

I actually think flac is pretty much universally supported
now, by anyone who owns a computer. It's open source and has
compiles in all the major and minor operating systems
afterall. I think the bigger media software like
itunes/winamp/foobar all support it out of the box too.

It isn't like Monkey Audio / APE, which was privately
developed and only available for windows (the last time I
checked anyway).

If you're listening to music on your ipod, then quality
probably isn't your biggest concern anyway.

also, if you're talking wavs higher than 44khz/16bit, then
these aren't universally supported either. a lot of
soundcards and portable players can't do higher than this.
