yea I pick and choose when to do sound design. Sometimes I
want to completly make my own sounds and then othertimes i
don't feel like reinventing the wheel so I'll use patches,
personalize them a little with filters etc, and just jump
right into sequencing, slicing or whatever.

How i roll is I make a four bar loop and play it on LOOP
mode. I add things and add things. I then structure the loop
across a whole track. With things like FIGHTER i do it
different. I go where the last bar points to. It sez "oi
that way you daft ponse!" and i just shuffle over and do
what it says

I made all the synths on the Yamaha RY30 thing out of raw
waveforms though. It didn't come with anything but drum
kits and a bass patch, but you could go in and choose
waveforms then set the filters and other paramaters.

I have been trying to learn more about my waldorf q and what
it can do as far as sound design (most of the presets are ok
but a bit generic.) What I really think I want is NI
Reaktor or maybe even the Komplete box w massive, absynth
etc.

Reason is lovely jubly cos the subtractor (y'know about
that?) is a beautifully basic buty capable oscillator.
Square, saw ,sine, tri, then 20 others that are specific
wave forms. 2 env filters, 2 freq filters with bp hp lp
12/24. Two independant oscs with a rather nifty thang that
can double up waves to make pulse. It also has a whole bunch
of velocity conrtolers that mean you can get made with the
step filter style goodness.
Did you notice all your samples in my last remix?

in your last glasse remix? Yea I heard the samples in
there. You made good use of them.

What I want to get into is blending sampling with patch
design using a modular softrig like reason or reaktor. I
want to be able to sample real sounds like voices, the
telephone, the blender, and blend them in with synth patches
to create morphed sounds.

I can kinda do some of this now by using the keyboard on the
waldorf to play local but also play a patch i have set up on
the sampler (ASRX)via midi, but then feed the sampler's
output back to the ext in/noise oscillator and vocoder.
This kind of stuff takes a lot of administrative setup on
hardware though. I need an EASY button (drag drop
intuition) to make my workflow less of a pain.

I would love to be able to insert mt own waves into an osc.
Like the blender. I like your thinking!
