"Why buy the cow when the milk is free?"

because the beef is where it's at. :)

Did anyone answer glasse's question about buying online vs.
not buying at all? Because that's what I'm wondering, as
well.

I think people will continue to buy music online, even if
physical album sales dwindle. I will continue to buy
physical copies. I personally enjoy buying the actual cd to
get the album art and a quality-pressed cd instead of a
cd-r, and I try to buy directly from the artist whenever
possible to ensure as much of my money as possible goes to
them, and not the retailer.

Though I admit, owning real cds adds anxiety to my life
because I always try to transfer them from cd book to player
without touching the optical surface at all, but in the car
driving one-handed that's not always easy. I seem unable to
protect my cds longer than 5 years as even removing them
from their soft sleeves in the cd book seems to scratch them
over a long period of time. At least you don't have to worry
about mp3's becoming scratched...

havent bought a cd oir lp for about 5 years but i still
wish they had a way of zapping people downloading shit for
free because it cheapens the whole thing and now tend to
listen to albums once or twice and then delete them nowadays
whereas you used to be forced to listen to them over and
over again as you couldnt always buy new shit and you would
end up liking tunes you didnt like at first which is why
things that have a lot of depth and complexity might become
rarer and rarer although i would say the majority of people
who buy music arent really music fans in the sense of really
listening to it its really just something to sing along to
or put on in the background so there will always be the
"real" music fans who want to hear some crazy shit that you
have to pay attention to probably . having said that music
has onlybeen available to "buy" for the past 50 years or so
(other than attending live concerts orgetting sheet music)
so our experience of it as a physical medium was most likely
a small blip in its evolution anyway. also the "smash the
system" types going on about how mental of them it is to
download music for free are really really funny and dumb.
uuh thats about it
