mimi, do you adjust levels in photoshop? The cliffs photo
for example really pops into shape when you adjust levels
for proper black.

i do adjust the curves in ps, but maybe my/your monitor is
just not calibrated correctly, or either one, possibly.
which one is the cliffs one that you're talking about...?

to be honest i don't know how to calibrate the monitor on my
powerbook, all i can figure out is how to adjust the display
brightness, and i have that set at the maximum brightness (i
have poor eyesight). i had a big problem with i got this
computer with my old photos that were edited on my old
pc...that monitor was such garbage that everything looked
very flat and grey on the fancy new computer...i hope i'm
not having this problem again!

this one

I don't have a calibrated monitor either, I just looked at
the histogram in PS. The exposure is very nice and there is
black, but it just seemed very little for the amount of
shadows under those rocks. Those shadows under the rocks
don't show any detail so if they are greyish, the image
might look flat.

There is no right or wrong histogram, it just shows you the
levels for black (on the left) to white.

I AM YOUR FATHER!

Canon 5200mm, f/14 mirror lens for the FD-system (before EOS
came with the current EF-system). There's a camera attached
to the lens on the right. Note also the scope for aiming, on
top of the lens.

I'm not a photographer, but I'll offer a few pictures here
to entice others to post their new and awesome photos.

Step father's brother. Step uncle?

His wife.

Here's another. I took it late at night while trying to find
street life like pimps and whores to photograph. I couldn't
find any, though.
