Well if you're going to go down that route, then this whole thread isn't actually saying anything significant, it's just a whole lot of emotive responses boo towards burglary and murder. Read Aj Ayer's Language, Truth and Logic. Suuuuuuuuuper!

What if he said, "I'm your biggest fan, I'm just trying to steal your unreleased material." imagine how you'd feel then...

I notice a lot of people have a problem with the last little bit of the scenario. I narrated that the burglar was detained -- but it is not known that the principal character knows this fact. He could claim that he was in a state of panic during the whole thing, which would grant him all shots fired.
If the principal character did know that he was detained, then he is guilty of murder. But would a jury actually convict him? How many others would do the same?
The best defense would be to deny the "this is the life you chose" remark. If you tell the police that, you're fucked.
And to the bloke that thought I was reading Camus: I've never read anything by him. I'm trying to read Philip K. Dick's The Simulacra -- it's the mid 21st century, and America is now the USEA: The United States of Europe and America, and it is run by the Democratic-Republican Party!

A. J. Ayer is great, but if you take him seriously and decide that you will never say anything meaningless ever, you will not talk that much. Even the fact that I am posting on the xltronic message board is only verifiable in principle; You will never meet me, or witness me posting on xltronic. You just have to assume that much. Maybe I'm one of the moderators disguising myself as a Canadian...
