The key to understand Ae's music (includes philosophy)

Agreed.
I'm surprised so many people on here dismiss the music
because they do not 'enjoy' listening to it. When I hear
things that I do not immediately enjoy, but I can sense have
some kind of artistic merit, I am inclined to give it more
than a once-over.
Alot of later Autechre is very difficult to get into. I
love it now, but there was a time when all I looked for in
music was melodies and bitchin' beats.. I didn't have the
patience or understanding for all the abstract stuff. I have
done alot of thinking about music since those years and have
an entirely new appreciation for it today. In fact, I find
myself latching onto the very tracks I thought were shit
several years ago.
This is not to mention that with Autechre, lack of overt
'feeling', I suspect, is largely the point. Just as I can
be hit by the beauty of a piece of architecture, or a land
formation, or something else technically emotionally
removed, so I can also be struck by the sheer power and
intricacies of a 'soulless' track by Autechre. It's not a
reason for dismissal, it's just a different sort of way of
writing 'music,' if you think that term applies.

oh yeah, repetetive music pisses me off, period. fuck this
'use my own imagination' shit; I'm going to be using it no
matter what, and if some metal loop is sawing my brain in
half, well it's getting in the way of my imagination.
That's why I like aphex; not this fucking loop hemorrhage
shit.

there, I read half of one post in this thread.

HAHAHAAHHA

for Autechre's music is so immensely revelatory
that mere human minds cannot grasp the spiritual and
mathematically complex hidden meanings hidden therin.

my fucking ass. there are MANY MANY minds on this planet for
whom that music requires but a second of analysis.

The truth is, they are mathematicians and are
classically trained to the highest degree; their music is
full of neo-classical references and mathematical gems that
only the brightest of minds could understand.

bullshit. just listen to the music and stop being retarded.
qrter mentioned dael to me and I thought it was pretty
(since I hadn't heard it in 9 months), but after 2 listens
my brain started dying because it's one fucking loop and
then another loop with shifting dynamic.

Do you know how the inside of you computer works? Do you
know how they made a firmware update when cassini was two
years out to correct for doppler shift in huygen's
transmissions? Have you seen chebyshev's proof for
asymptotics of the density of primes?

you're insulting the world's great minds.

hey dude, good to see you!! By the way, I made the
'changed' statement the other day because you seem meaner on
here than you used to. Maybe I'm just freaking out; maybe
you just hate this place now (you're here less..)..

how's life? whathca listen to these days?

Well, I guess things are different. Moved, got a 2nd job,
started seeing someone, so yeah. Been generally stressed
aaand I don't even know anymore.
Not listening to anything exciting reaally. Been away from
my computer/stereo for a while with the move.

By the way, I think CS2x is joking, or at least hope he is.
It sounds like it.

Yeah I hope he's joking too. I felt like being twattish.

well I hope things pick up job wise.. and glad you're seeing
somebody! I'm starting to feel the need..

staying away from computer is good.. I need to start doing
that.. fuck

speaking of which, g'night.

Yes, I was joking.

My first post didn't make any sense towards the end.

It was inspired by annoying Autechre reviews I read while
online which likened their music to the most ridiculous
metaphors and were absolutely condescending.

Anyway, that was fun! Bye.

ps-I still love Ae though. But not for the reasons I
initially gave; I like music that creates a powerful
atmosphere and makes my brain work. Simply put, Ae fulfill
this criteria for me (most of the time.)
