I've got quite varied comments.
My brother really likes Prefuse, but says "It's just so WIERD" about aphex. I played Chris Clark in my friends car, and thay said that "this is just bass, no melody, just random bass"
My brother really likes Radiohead, but my friends are not that into it. Once I was listening to Plaid - Dead Sea at work and mate said "Is this funeral music".
a funny thing was that I had been playing Prefuse for a year at the office, and one day a work mate came up to me and said, "I was at my friends crib yesterday, and we where listening to Prefuse, do you know that band?"
And my mom said that Ulrich Schnauss is very beautyful. that was nice =)

Eh most of the comments vary between "Wtf is that Mario bros game music" (I have no fucking clue why 5-6 people get to that conclusion when listening to AFX or AE) and "Wtf is that thing broken?" (I have again no clue why they think a broken CD could play).
hmm..
Anyway the worse was definitely playing some VSnares at a party. I should have known better, that was my fault. Basically the whole thing crashed and everybody looked at me with their mouth open. Some of them told me "WHAT THE FUCK PLAY SOME 3 DOORS DOWN!!!!!" really loud. One of them told me he didn't like anything challenging in music. He didn't want to open his brain to music. Stupid.
A funny thing is that one of those guys, about a month after that, secretly told me he liked what I had played him. Heck it was easy party VSnares.

i get it all (99% negative), but sometimes a friend / wife / aquaintence will come up to me and say, what is that? that was pretty good, who is this, this is alright? but i will tell them the names of the artists and they will be like, oh never hear of them. so they will start to pay attention to the music, but not really keep their interest after they hear who it is. but i dont really harp on other peoples musics, the only time i catch myself doing it is to metal, which *sorry, i really have no patience for.

basicly, you can never play venetian snares at a party with 5+ people. almost impossible.

"I remember playing some ae to someone once, and they explained to me how autechre make their music: he said that they record it on a casio keyboard at a slow speed and then make the tempo about 3 times as fast, play it back and record it."
I once got an acquaintance of mine to listen to drukqs. He explained that the drummer was using electronic drums and that the keyboardist was also filling in some of the drums.

i used to play all sorts of great music at this store i worked at. but the best was when i played confield, this guy asked me if it was some sort of generic background music. a woman asked me if it was a recording of farts.

i really enjoy this thread, my sincere thanks for bring it back again
my brother to Draft 7.30 said "sorry, I don't understand it"
a friend on Goegaddi "oh.. it's quiet music, it's ok"
my mother about anything "you and your repetitive music" or "you should sell all your music, how much we would get for it?"
and in some party I played some Astrobotnia tracks and some people actually liked it, but at the same time I noticed they got nervous so I just others played some classic rock CD's, anyway, really I'd showed my idm side to very few people only

I can only remember my friend saying about windowlicker that it was "sex music" and my parents said about chiastic slide that it "is too harsh" and told me to "get that crap out of the player"
I rarely get positive responses to any music I like except ambient.
