Yes, it's a big house. I guess that automatically negates
any good intentions he might have had, ever, about
anything.

And fuck Paul McCartney, I loved Phil Spector's production
on Let it Be!

the worst, most overrated song of all time has got to be
"satisfaction" by the rolling stones.

the devo version, however, is great.

free bird has one of the worst guitar solos ever, plus
people (atleast in the us) seem to think its some kind of
untouchable god like song. its a piece of shit.
as for imagine, its definitely overrated, but i don't hate
it.
the song thriller by michael jackson, and the stupid video
that accompanied it, is overrated as well.

there's so many..most of the ones you all mentioned..and a
few others.

regarding the Beatles: Very little of there music is
provocative or genuine today. A band like Can, Beefheart,
The Stooges or The Velvet's are as timely and edgy as they
ever were. The Beatles are trite, pandering and smarmy.

they were an alright synthesis, not a great band.

I liked how John Lennons very own son called him a
hypocrite... saying something to the effect of "Well, he
always preached about peace and all that, but couldn't even
be there for his own kids"...

lennon always felt sorry for that... we all make mistakes...
he himself was a lacking father son since he was 5

he didnt see his son julian much due to the success he was
having at the moment with beatles... but he did spent a lot
with sean.

Edgy? Calling the VU edgier than The Beatles is like calling
Metallica heavier than Love... I don't think that was the
point of The Beatles, that's what lesser bands have to do
to make a splash... that's what the Sex Pistols had to do.
The Beatles were funny pansies, anybody looking into THEIR
music for some divine meaning is full of shit, there's a
half-dozen Lennon songs that bring that to light. Lou Reed
and The Beatles are two different beasts, there's nothing
wrong with the direction The Beatles took. Unfortunately for
them, they sold over a billion albums. I guess joy, fun and
light hearted humor are taboo if you want to be a 'LEET
band...

Obviously I'm not going to listen to Let it Be if I want
something ''edgy''... I like the fact that the Beatles
didn't have to resort to any counterculture/avant garde
bullshit to be relevant and eclectic artistically... they
spread their innovative ideas without alienating any
audiences or ever tying to be edgy or ''different''...
(well... Revolution 9 and that shit aside, but that was more
of a joke than anything, they knew how silly it was, judging
by that dialogue)... Generally, even when they were being
''pretentious'', it was all in good fun. They were just a
pop band to the end, they got a little more sophisticated
and eclectic but they never got in over their heads with
stupid experimentation or anything. If they wanted to be
edgy or some other lame adjective that has nothing to do
with artistic relevance, they wouldn't have done a great
song like Here Comes the Sun... totally different goal. I
get my fill of pretension from other sources.

The VU, yeah, of course, but Can and Beefheart... edgy?
Creative, fun little bands... but they've got nothing on The
Beatles. They sound downright silly far more than The
Beatles do now. I guess we'll find out who stands the test
of time best in 50 years or so... at which time, shit like
''Father Cannot Yell'' will be a footnote for a few people
to namedrop in ''Beatles vs whoever'' topics

of time best in 50 years or so... at which time, shit like
''Father Cannot Yell'' will be a footnote for a few people
to namedrop in ''Beatles vs whoever'' topics and Eleanor
Rigby will still be a pop masterpiece. There are just as
many artists these days that are influenced by The Beatles,
directly or not. They're in no danger of becoming
irrelevant, certainly not before some Kraut Rock.

As for John being a ''bad father'', he's certainly not the
only person, celebrity or not, to be accused of that,
nobody's perfect. When speaking of fatherhood, don't leave
out this part... John himself realized he was in the wrong
and spent 5 years basically as a house-husband, looking
after Sean Lennon. Julian is bitter, but he hardly HATES
John... he blames Yoko (the bitch) more than anything. John
made mistakes and it's very likely he would have long since
fixed them by now, had he lived. He was/is one of the most
recognizable people on earth, and he died at 40, LONG before
he could tie up loose ends and complete a legacy... it's
awfully easy to criticize him without knowing the whole
story.

it was agreed that it was one of the worst songs ever made,
yet people still buy it
