Horror Movie Suggestions

Yesterdays Halloween tv was shocking. the only thing any of
the big five UK channels showed was the original Halloween
which is pretty tame by todays standards. I've realised that
it's hard to find a chilling horror movie these days unless
you find a seedy old video store and scan through the
titles. It's normally the much less famous films (ie.
Children of the Corn & The Ring) rather then the box office
high-grossing ones (eg. Freddy vs Jason, 28 Days Later)
which are genuinely terrifying.

I've seen too many gore movies (ie. Saw I,II,III,IV) which
don't really make you scared so what I'm looking for is
something which will scare me the way The Shining did when I
first saw it. I crave the suspense.

Ideas please?

I always thought the remake of The Hills Have Eyes was
good.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a creepy one too, based on a
true story.

"The Lion King" is actually very scary, especially the bits
with the Scar evil lion.

I've heard that Candyman is quite good. Has anyone seen
that? What about the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre? The
original was awesome but I fear that might have turned it
into a crappy slasher gore-fest

Dario Argento - Sleepless
It is fucking excellent. Not a bloodbath classic, but more
mature kind of horror.

For mind numbing I suggest
The new Chainsaw massacre (lots of blood and is pretty good
if you treat it as not a remake of the old on but as an
entirely different film that resembles the first one ...)
Day of the dead (my fav)
Land of the dead (the new one, its fucking rad rad rad)
The thing !!!

Awww many I got some movie boners now look what you did too
me !

I loovvvvvvvvvvvvvvve horror movies man ...

DARIO ARGENTO
LUCIO FULCI
DAVID LYNCH
TAKESHI MIIKE
GEROGE A ROMERO
ALFRED HITCHCOCK
JOHN CARPENTER

those are the best in horror, get any film you can by any
them.

Last night I rented "Dagon" again, one of my
favourites and one of the few HP Lovecraft adaptations that
is even vaguely Lovecraftian and is nicely creepy even
whilst being hammy. Because it's hammy even, I don't know.

Then tonight I've got Honogurai mizu no soko kara, oh yes.

I've heard that Cannibal Holocaust is good, mainly
because it's been banned in so many countries and is so
notorious. I don't suppose anyone's seen it...?

is it quite scary? I find that these baneed horror movies
are usually quite disappointing by the time I come to watch
them. The Exorcist was probably the biggest
disappointment - I dont recall being scared once during
that. It was just farcical and lacked suspense. I've seen
scarier X-Files episodes ...

Depending on what version you're watching. I bought
"Cannibal Ferox". It's pretty much the same movie up until
the part where the gutting begins. In Cannibal Ferox that's
where they decide to end the movie, abruptly (it quickly
skips to the later part where they're rescued by the people
in the canoe). I was sorely disappointed. Either way, it's
fun in a campy sort of way.

Re: Candyman. Scared the shit out of me when I was a
youngster. Especially the first time we watched it, the
video was a bit fucked and everytime Candyman spoke it
sounded like a fart. I reviewed it recently, though it
wasn't especially scary (I think one reaches a point after
watching so many horror movies that you don't really watch
it for the scare, because nothing can scare you anymore, but
rather for other elements which might make it good), it did
have this sense of drama which was pretty good.

Yes, I picked that up for £3 in Tescos a while back. Only
real Lovecraft adaptation I've seen that keeps the feel of
the original.

nice. Is the spine of the Cannibal Holocausr movie in
Cannibal Ferox good? I have a feeling from the clips I've
seen that it's not particularly well filmed and is sorely
dated by todays standards. I could be wrong though!

i don't know what you mean by that. spine? i think you see a
spine. in cannibal holocaust they use pig intestines.

oh, and Philip Glass does the score for candyman. I forgot
to mention that.
