if any of yous have mixmag of september2007, could you
possibly do one of two things:
1) verify that there is a review of lackluster: repulsine ep
(slsk records) on there
2) possibly scan the review of said ep?

the reason i ask this is because the scandinavian
distributor of mixmag does not, and has not, supplied said
magazine to finland for the past 3 years.

yours most faithfully, esaruoho@gmail.com

I've not bought mixmag since 1993 when it had a free
cassette on the front.
Isn't it full of dj tiesto lovers?

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's all wanky euphoric
superclub nonsense these days, isn't it?

that it wasnt before. but thats not really my problem --
just wanted to know on the offchance anyone has an issue,
whether there is a review of a new ep from slskrecords on
there.

actually, i have 1.52eur on my paypal account but that
doesnt help.

Sorry, I was suggesting if I found a copy, it would have to
not be in a plastic bag even for me to tell if it had been
reviewed or not (unless you're on the cover! :) ). I will
try and let you know if it's in there (assuming it's not in
a bag). In fact, sod it, I shall go across the road now...

Hi Esa - I had a snoop round our local WHSmiths, and found
the mag, but sorry - no dice. Couldn't see any mention of
your release in the reviews at all. October issue shouldn't
be too long away, so I'll have another look then for you too
if you want. Wasn't in a sleeve either, so I should be able
to take a sneaky camera pic of the review and type it up.

Chris.

Yep, it is indeed in this issue. I took a pic of the article
with my phone in Smiths, but the text is barely legible! You
got three headphones out of five though.

Here's what I could (mostly) read (I put the words I'm not
completely sure on in brackets):

"Esa Ruoho has been making electronica since the mid-90s,
and it shows. This - on the label of download engine
SoulSeek - could easily have come from a Warp compilation
circa 1993, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the
rippling synth [arpeggios] and shimmering beats sound
absolutely lush. Slightly hippie-ish maybe, but warm,
melodic and [decidedly/definitely] lush."

Good review. Hope that helps. :)

sneakattack: unfortunately there is currently no-one in
touch from the states who would be serious, and capable, of
bringing me over for a gig or two. it seems to be one of
these things that never changes.

1. "come and play" 2. "wed love you to play" 3. "can you
find any other organizers in the states who would want to
chip in for the flight + costs?" 4. "we'll be in touch" 5.

tbh, i dont see it happening. it costs tons to fly people
over to the states, and even then its only feasible with a
promotional company or a set of very, very active promoters
/ venue owners who really, really do want something to
happen.

--------
csl: thanks, i think that put together with what i got sent
over email ('Esa Ruoho has been making electronica since the
mid 90's and it shows. This - on the label of the download
engine Soulseek - could easily of come from a Warp
compilation circa 1993, but that doesn't detract from the
fact that the rippling synth arpeggios and glimmering beats
sound absolutely lush. Slightly hippie-ish, maybe but warm,
melodic and definately lush.' (3 out of 5))

means that its probably "hippie-ish" since you wrote it out
too. (the person who sent that one to me wasnt sure it was
hippie-ish or not.. another camera phone shot ;) )

btw, thanks, much appreciated!

This -- on the label of download engine Soulseek -- could

that doesn't detract from the fact that the rippling synth
arpeggios and skittering beats sound absolutely lush.
Slightly hippie-ish, maybe, but warm, melodic and definitely
lush.
