After Ovuca, Cylob and Wagon Christ today is the Photek's
day... tell me your opinion about Solaris, which is your fav
album, etc...

SInce no one else wanted to respond to this, I will
gladly....
As a HUGE fan of (old)Photek...
I.E.:
Form & Function and Modus Operandi
where he tore the Drum n Bass world a new A-Hole...He ripped
it back than....

Then Rupert decided to, well I guess some would say his
"house" roots.
This gives us Solaris....I was SO dissapointed with this
album. There are maybe 2 or 3 tracks worth listening to,
other than those, its all shitty Booty House music. Its top
40 clubcrap....

Stick with the "old" Photek we all know and love...and let's
hope this was just a phase and he will be back to killing
the decks.

I haven't anything about photek,but I liked his drum'n'bass
works...the only thing in my possession is his remix of
Bjork's I miss you...I don't agree with his musical
change...

I like a few tracks on Solaris, but I must agree - I don't
like as much as Modus Operandi and Form & Function. Modus
Operandi is amazing.

Funnily enough I was listening to Ni Ten Ichi Ryu this am as
I was getting ready for a nice day at work (work is rest).

I haven't got Solaris yet but am not put off by a new house
direction. I think Mine to Give is class.

He's still making Drum n' Bass under aliases including
Special Forces.

His remix of Therapy?'s Loose got me into drum n' bass and
it still sounds fresh today.

EXCELLANT!!!-I USED TO BE A HUGE PHOTEK FAN!! NOW ALLOW ME
TO WAFFLE...

i have all the original photek twelevs of which in my whole
coolection of vinly i am most proud because i really do
believe that rupert parkes had a huge impact in the mid
nineties

my top five...

seventh samurai (not the version on form and fuction-the
version where the beats just build and build and then it
launches into a phat amen style break)

touching down planet photek-amazing use of science fiction
type sounds

conciousness-how the fuck did he get that spinning back
crackle effect at the start?

the watermargin-funky as funky, wicked bass...what else can
you say??

modus operandi (album track)-spooky, dark, and very
atmospheric....

rings around saturn-one of my all time favourite
tunes....genius

'Work is rest' as in Orwellian doublespeak.

4/4 is not boring. The Antiques Roadshow is boring.

dunno-bad move to make a garage album...and its just such a
weak effort-he should have released it under a different
name-photek should only be associated with making top drawer
drum n bass.

Wasn't meaning to offend, just stir up some of the IDM
obsessives. I love everything that is good. I just hate it
when people on this MB write off house thinking its all
cheesy, chart trite. There's some great stuff out there.

Im a Photek fan and i recomend his Special Forces releases
on Photek productions.
Everything he has done there is really whicked.
"The bleeps Tune" and "exocet"for example is really dark
bassline murda things.
Allso check out Inta Warriors "inta" Special Forces remix.
He wont be releasing much DnB on Astralwerks from now on.
But expect many whicked EP's from Photek Produktions.
I hope he will make a Special Forces album soon.

I really liked the vocal tracks on solaris but i didn't like
those boring Big Beat type tracks.Photek is all about
perfektion and those tracks sounded like it could have been
done by any second rate dance producer.
Nobody can match Photeks perfekt programed razor sharp
beats.
He style is very special.

I own form&function and Modus Operandi. The latter I feel
is the best. I've heard a few tracks from Solaris, and i
can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea. I prefer
the tracks on Modus Operandi -- Form& function is a bit too
reptitive, and the stuff on Modus operandi is a bit more
interesting to listen to. Minotaur is one of my favorite
tracks.
Normally I like my music to be a bit more melodic, but if
i'm in the mood for drum & bass, Photek delivers.

Yes "Minotaur" is a exelent track.
"Smoke Rings" and "Fift Column"
are whicked to.Makes you think of old Akira Kurosawa movies
or something(seventh samurai).

Have you heard a track called "Titan".
Very cool tune with strange dark noices.
I allso recomend a track called "DNA" (i think?) that has
very complex drumm programin.

haven't listened to Solaris yet. kind of afraid to actually,
given that I love Photek's dnb work and really don't want to
see him dive into the shitter the way it sounds like he has.

DNA is cool. It's on the "Rarewerks" album put out by
Astralwerks. I like the jet sounds on the track.

yeah solaris is ass
did anyone notice the autechre sample on the first track?
there is a stereo panning chirping noise.

what i hate most about that album is the lame house vocals.
"if that dont make you happy.. i don know... i don
knoooow.." sheer crap.
i hate house vocals
