ReBirth filter and distortion squelch

Today I was playing around with ReBirth, and I realized
that the filter on the 303, and especially the distortion
unit, sound SO squelchy.

Here's a little example track I made: mp3

ReBirth sucks for making music though. I'd like to be able
to get that sound inside Ableton Live (or preferably
Reason).

I know Propellerheads discontinued ReBirth, and they offer a
free ReBirth Refill. It only works with Reason 3.0 though,
and I only have 2.5. Has anyone tried it out?

Does it use the Subtractor for the 303, or does it use
samples? Because if it uses the Subtractor, how the hell
does it get the filter to sound like the one on the 303 in
RB? It seems to me that the filter on the Subtractor is way
different sounding (worse).

What about the distortion unit? Does the ReFill use the
Scream4 for that? Can anyone help me recreate the ReBirth
distortion inside of Reason?

Thanks!

ReBirth complicates things because you have to program the
303s inside ReBirth, and I don't even know if you can tell
the 303 to change patterns via MIDI... which means, you need
to use the Song Mode inside of ReBirth for the 303 parts,
and the rest of your song is done elsewhere.

I believe the rebirth in 3.0 is all NNXT based

Within reason, just insert the rebirth input module, then
launch the actual rebirth program. Now they're linked in
rewire and you can use reason's sound modules for rebirths
303/808/909.

That's my main problem. I can't use the Combinator since I
only have Reason 2.5. Otherwise, I'd just download the
ReBirth ReFill and be happy. :(

Teach me. (I never use the Maelstrom since I don't
understand it.)
