[SPAM] Harpsichord Sonatina

Hello, I decided to compose a Harpsichord Sonatina, and
I've done the first movement, which you may find

here

I programmed it in note by note, visualising the sheet music
of the actual music in my head.

I hope you enjoy it. If not; sorry.

(I used Edirol Orchestral with Arts Acoustic Reverb and PSP
MasterComp in FL studio 5)

i like it, very nice. dig the fast sweepy melodies.. reminds
me more of a gameboy than a harpsichord, though :)

want to hear more!

Great.

I don't understand why Mario 3/2/1 music sounds so good and
I can't make anything remotely similar.

I suspect the best approach is making the melody before any
chords. In twinkle twinkle little star I think every single
melody note is the same as one of the ones in the chord
playing so its like you're limited to only 3 notes at any
one time. And that's the only way I can make something an
eighth decent (by rigidly dividing the timeline into blocks
and have EVERY note in a block be one of the chord notes
(which are all 3 note only and c major cuz I siz-uck)

I'm not saying I don't like it, I think it's an achievement.
However, why write such music?

...Because I like it. I'm not out to be the next IDM
breakout star, I just like making music. :]

Also, it's written specifically for someone. Also, I love
Sonatinas (I play piano and have sonatinas by Clementi,
Kuhlau, Mozart, Beethoven. Plus, it's good compositional
practice, technical-wise. And again, it was in my head, the
least I could do was release it from its prison!

Sooo, I guess I'm saying there are plenty of reasons :)

Hahaha, I can imagine a guy with large, wild, white hair,
really headbanging while playing this on a really really
small harpsichord.

Haha, that's how I was half the time when composing it :D
Well, the headbanging bit... alas, I have no real
harpsichord (yet!) and my hair isn't white.

Sweet rolls in here man! Worth the 25 minutes it took to
download on dial up ;)

Well, you'll just have to fix that then!

I hear the best way of turning your hair white, is to let
Bob possess you.

This is really very good. This kind of goes along with
ascention in it's baroque feel. However, it seems more
meldoically complex. It is an incrediblely enjoyable listen.
I am hearing a progression in nuance and structure too.

I shall be keeping my eyes and ears out for the next
installment.

: )

Thanks for picking up on the sub-melodies, Skink :D I've
been mulling over the 2nd movement today, I think it's
taking shape inside my head :)

I don't know how you can write it your head first. I suppose
that having a knowledge of theory would help with this.
Personally i always go in with nothing and see what happens,
this approach is always 50/50. Sometimes i would like to
know what it is i am after.

: )

Oh yes, it's not always in my head... normally I'll have a
brief notion and as it loops, melodies and harmonies and
beats occur to me. But, with something like this, a lot of
it is theory-based. :)

I think a brief notion of what i would like is the best i
get, most of the time. Most of the time though i go in
unprepared. It keeps things interesting. Sometimes a gem
will fall out. If you remember one of my tracks called you
know that place well. It was something that just appeared
from nowhere and took me about three hours from beginning to
end.

I think i'll have to send up the album to you with some
other stuff as well.

: )

big respect for giving this a go. it amuses me in the way it
frolics along and then leaps into the air :) harpsichord
concertos are one of my favourite things.

atfer the jump, my ears tell of a chase, then a dance.

its 1am, i just finished cooking pasta and assembling ikea
furniture.

funny, whenever i have to write something for assesment, i
always crack out the classical cds.

air-harpsichording.

Have you played it? it sounds like you made certain that
nothing was impossible (for a human with just two hands, 5
fingers each). I liked it though I thought you could work
on making longer melodic lines, and varying the ending (it's
too abrupt, the structure didn't prepare for it).

wow all your music is pretty damn good, though at times I
wish they were real instruments, especially the harpsichord
song. Truly better than anything I could ever hope to
write. I look forward to hearing more of your music.

sneakattack - it's quite playable, although a slight
virtuoso touch would be required for the hemi-semi-quaver
runs in it. The melodic lines are quite short because it's a
sonatina. Sorry the coda caught you by surprise! :D

DiaZo - many thanks for listening & liking it.. maybe one
day I'll get real musicians to play for me.. although half
the fun is programming the music. Still, a real
harpsichordist playing it would be F.A.B.!

I had this on repeat for awhile while I was dickin around on
the comp (after awhile I forgot it was even on) and my mom
walked by.. she was like "jesus you've been listening to
that thing for like 45 minutes" haha.

My favorite part is from 1:19 until the end.

Funny you say that; I've made three attempts at the 2nd
movement, and the third attempt ended up having a phat beat
underneath it :] It sounded dope ya know, but not like the
slow movement of a harpsichord sonatina :]
