Gabriele d'Annunzio was born in 1863, in Pescara, Italy. He was a poet, novelist, writer. But it is for his politics that he is now remembered, and these eclipsed his literary achievements. He led 2000 nationalist Italians in a seizure of the city of Fiume in 1919, before the Paris peace conference, to force the occupying forces to withdraw. When Italy refused to annex Fiume, he declared Fiume an independent state. He instituted a regime which Mussolini would later ape in his Italian fascism. He is now probably best remembered for the invention of a method of torture. His henchmen would force their political opponents to swallow castor oil through the stages of vomiting, diarrhea and eventual death. DRINK UP, BE MERRY. |

Sorry, didn't realise you weren't replying to me! "smart_ass" isn't exactly a smart response. Underscores call to mind impractical knowledge represntation systems of the 1980's, where researchers tried to use ontologies to describe the world, and never got anywhere. |
