I think "4" is a good starter. I usually try and consider
the person's musical background when I show them Aphex.
Recently I gave one person "Bouncing Ball" first and another
I gave "Peek". It seems like some people you have to give a
song like "Flim" or they will think its noise or techno. I
remember when I first got into Aphex Twin was after I found
out that he collaborated with Philip Glass whose work I have
always admired. So that was my introduction...what was
yours? I became really hooked once I heard RDJA.

i usually play polynomial c, or track 7 from i care
becasue... their musical background playes a huge role, i
mean, you don't play the ventolin single to someone who digs
ricky martin. Infact you don't even hang out with ppl who
dig ricky martin........

What got me into aphextwin....

It was a long time ago...in a land far, far, away...and i
was watching mtv's 1hour preview of mtv2, and i think moby
was on it...i didn't know who the hell it was...and it was
(moby's?) fav videos....and he played come to daddy...i
thought it was the coolest fucking video i've ever seen.
becak then i thought aphex only did industrial, and when i
got the come to daddy cd, i was like what the fuck? this
sux! but now, IDM is my greattest passion! THANK YOU! you
bald stranger.....i'll never remember who you were.....

Alberto Balsalm got me into Aphex.

I usually get people in with the lighter stuff, like you
mentioned funkmaster. Although one friend of mine only
started digging aphex when he heard Ventolin.

nobody here mentioned windowlicker!
when i have a room full of excessively stoned people i like
nothing better than to put on the windowlicker video- the
juxtaposition of disgust and admiration on their faces is
always something to see :)

nannou

Good for both long term RDJ fans, and people who have never
heard of him.

Unless they like, you know, metal... or something like that.

I think:

Come To Daddy for metalheads
Flim for pop fans
Alberto Balsalm for your parents
Avril 14th for really old people
Cock Ver/10 or Taking Control for rave heads

if theyre rock fans...come to daddy definitely...

i guess it does sort of depend on their musical background
though..
if they prefer gentler music...try his gentler songs...and
if they like it rough...
well..we all know how rough richard can play...

once i let a friend listen to a bit of 54 cymru beats...hes
really into hardcore punk and speedmetal...
so i let him hear the crazy bit towards the end ...heh.. his
eyes widened and all he could say was 'whoa...that guy is
fucking scary' ...he had heard of aphex before..through the
come to daddy video
