Just been linked to this video, which apparently
shows the synching of Echoes to the last 23 minutes
of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Hell, even if it's baloney, it's an awesome song & an
awesome film.

It certainly gives another touch and feeling to the scene.

i've done this but i couldnt be sure whether it was
perfectly synch'd even after following all instructions..

it was enjoyable anyway though.

That scene with the interdimensional travel blows my mind
each and every time.

Yeah, Kubrick is the best director ever to have blessed the
earth: even though he's so widely known and stuff, I think
he's under-rated and the depth of his films
under-appreciated.

yeah i love 2001, the shining, full metal jacket and a
clockwork orange.

i've seen dr. strangelove and i couldn't enjoy it as much,
but it was certainly interesting.

I've yet to see some of his older work like lolita.

I've only seen that version of Lolita once. The
Jeremy Irons version is really good.

If you scroll down, you'll see my The Shining thread
which has a link to a fascinating imDb article about The
Shining.... the same user also wrote some great analyses of
other Kubrick films: well worth reading.

cheers. i'll have a look.

speaking of jeremy irons, what did you think of his part in
Die hard 3?

I've only seen Die Hard III, on video when it came
out - I wasn't impressed by it at all, and can't remember
Irons' performance in it.

Generally, he's a good actor but he's been in some pretty
dull films :D

from wikipedia's entry on a clockwork orange:

"Reportedly, Stanley Kubrick asked Pink Floyd frontman Roger
Waters if he could use elements of the "Atom Heart Mother"
suite in the soundtrack; Waters rejected the request. Later,
Waters asked Kubrick if he could appropriate sounds from
2001: A Space Odyssey - a request Kubrick rejected."

That's true - Kubrick also denied Waters the right to use
excerpts from 2001 for his album, Amused To Death,
not for any personal reasons: Waters later used the excerpts
in his live shows.

Goddammit, space is the place. Rock instrumentation just
doesn't work well for me in this context though, personally.
Not sure why, too worldly or something. I don't really like
this too much, no matter how congruent it is.

i always think of barry lyndon being a technical brilliant
movie, but still a bit dull. it's like kubrick chose an
uninteresting leading role to allow his own film-making art
to shine through. like he wanted to be in the spotlights
himself.
