Yes, three words: Casio pocket calculator.

casio pocket calculator! no way. HP made much better
calculators.

Oh and I take it we are talking about the people of Japan,
not the land mass itself?
Parking itself across a massive faultline and enduring
earthquakes is pretty dumb, so is being devoid of almost any
natural resources.

Most Japanese would say yes.

Education in Japan, from what I know, is more or less like
military training. This is especially the case in high
school, where Japanese students have to go through exit
exams that are part of what's referred to as juku, or
cram school.

Once they're in college, things tend to ease up a bit, or so
I've heard. There's a probability that I'll find out for
myself this fall, since I'm planning on going on a student
exchange to Hokkaido University of Education in Sapporo this
fall.

*ahem*anyway..

yeah, i'm in year 11 at high school in australia (i dont
know what this means to other parts of the world.. but, 17
years old.) and i'm doing maths methods class which is like
all new stuff to us, and there are asians in the class just
acing it, and they say that they learnt this in year 7 and
even a bit in primary school...
i don't know what this says about australian education or
their education but it is definitely a little out of
proportion..

*ahem* anyway..

asians have some impressive traits, i think they'll probably
lead the human race in the coming centuries.

as we know the australian government is trying to decide
whether or not to further relax secondary education
standards. i dont agree with it. i sat year 12 in 1996, and
i definitely think that cirriculum was fair.

yeah, it seems like it's just a way to filter out whatever
amount of people there is who cant manage to pass year 12...
and i dunno, they put pressure on you with exams and
whatnot, but if you just try, i think most people really can
pass it to whatever extent..
i know, asia is way ahead of us in education. we also have
some exchange students in our school atm, and theres a
german in our maths class whos just owning..
you just cant help but get the feeling our education is
lacking.. oh well. its not like only passing high school
actually means much though in terms of getting anywhere with
a career etcetc..
DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE OR SHOULD I GO TO BED.
