Hi

I've put a new website together for my photography

http://www.rsrvd.co.uk/

It'd be great if some of you could have a look and let me
know what you think..... it's also hard to check it's all
running smoothly as I'm currently on a really slow dialup
connection.....

it's running great on my firefox
i like the barbwire fence picture
have you thought out yet what to do when you want to put
alot of pictures, how to categorize?

thanks :)

yep, i'll definitely be categorising them in some way, but
at the moment i'm just keeping it simple with a few
photos......

some nice photographs there... why spoil them by writing
"RESERVED RSRVD.CO.UK" on big white letters over them? : (

To promote the site and to help deter people from nicking
'em ;)

site is alright, the photos range from being alright to
looking like they come from a barclaycard worker's holiday
album when they were feeling a bit arty

Why?

Wouldn't you want people to grab them and use them as a
desktop? It would get seen a lot more. Honestly, these are
very nice, but I don't think I'll go to your site again,
just won't happen. I'll have forgotten about it. If these
pictures were bigger and without the labels on the side, I'd
have one as my desktop right now. But no, thats 'nicking'.

sure, sure... but to me, this (and also the fact that you
can't see them in big resolution) feels like saying :

"hey look here's a pretty photograph—OK NOW VISIT MY SITE
AND DON'T YOU TRY TO STEAL THE PICTURES, THEY'RE MINE!".

...what's more important : the photographs themselves, or
the fact that you took them?

offline manicminer from Paris (France) on 2007-03-25 13:35 [#02066092]
Points: 1423 Status: Lurker

well, i know what you're saying, but i do want to keep the
labels in the corner for promotion - i think that's fair
enough

as for the size, i suppose i'd eventually like to have the
option on the site for the user to download a larger, higher
quality image, but as it stands i've tried to keep it simple
for the time being and i think it's more important to have
smaller images for download for the time being.....

anyway, glad you like them, and if you give me your email
i'd be more than happy to send you the larger files...

which one do you want? i'm on dialup, so i'd prefer not to
send all of them right now.....

(you can have more than one, or even all of them if you
really want)

I like the panoramic shot and the bottom-right photograph.
Lovely colours on that last one.

Dunno what you were thinking including the top-right and
bottom-center images though. They are visually boring.

Am I also right to assume there is a fair bit of
post-processing on these shots? This isn't a problem, but
those skies look a bit unnatural. That may be the effect
you're looking for though.

I'm sorry to say, but i don't think the style of the website
goes very well with the style of the photos. Other than
that, some of the photos are pretty awesome.

(referring specifically to the photos with sky in) - there
was a lot of post processing in the tower bridge photo, not
actually that much in the others....

in the pylons photo i used a polarising filter, which made
the clouds "pop", and i've done some levels adjustments in
all of them to bring the sky out a bit, but not that much
has been done really. the battersea and vauxhall bridge
photos have had very little done to them at all.

cool :)

it's the first website i've ever made, and i'm no graphic
designer, so it probably doesn't "go" with the photos that
well.

if you have any suggestions as to how i could improve it i'd
be interested to know.....

Just have some thoughts about what your photos express, and
try to emulate that in the design. It doesn't really do that
now. Make it simpler, but more sleek. Like, when you hover
over the photos, it should fade to blurry, rather than turn
instantly blurry.

The colours, red and yellow. Your photos are more earth
colours, grey and black in my eyes. The design of the site
looks wacky and funny, but the photos are a totally
different style. Maybe a far more square design, thats just
really sleek and cool, with a little tekst maybe. I dunno.

cool - i think i know where you're coming from and i do know
what you mean - i suppose the photos are less manic than the
site design suggests....

do you have any sites i could look at as an example?

I really like the pics (especially the tree one) and I also
like the website design, but as DP says, I think the website
doesn't really suit the mood of the photos. Maybe a more
muted palette and slightly less cartoony frames on the
thumbnails?

From a technical POV, the page works fine on my IE6 machine
(which has a pop up blocker installed).

Thanks Ceri :)

Yeah, I reckon I'm going to have a rethink on the
design..... it shouldn't be too hard to make a few changes
now ;)

....just a quick bump - although the site's still very
basic, i've tidied it up a bit and i think it's looking
better.....

in the longer term, i'm planning on making it a lot slicker,
but for the time being this'll probably be ok.....

I've got some new photos on here now, and have removed the
logos from all but one of them (the Ullswater one - I will
get round to removing it from that one too when I have a
chance).

for a wallpaper:
