Starting at 21:30 on Saturday 2007 Mar. 3, ending at 01:11 on Mar. 4. Total phase from 22:44 to 23:57. All times in GMT: remember to adjust for your time zone if further east or west! This eclipse should be visible from Europe and Africa and much of Asia. Western parts of Australia will see just the beginning before sunrise. South America and the eastern half of North America will see at least the second half after sunset. Assuming clear skies, a lunar eclipse is a rewarding sight, especially through binoculars. The moon remains faintly visible, lit by the reddish 'earthshine' scattered from the atmosphere, and appears unusually three-dimensional under such conditions. |

i was hoping someone would make a thread for this. To me it's utterly baffling how little people can care about something as dramatic as this. It's as they don't fully realize that the moon is actually floating out there in >SPACE< and that it's not just a white dot in the sky. When i see the moon sometimes it kind of saddens me to think so little of it because i simply cannot comprehend the very realness of it, if you know what i mean. I want to be fascinated by the moon. Just to let you know, i fully realize i must come across as an idiot, getting all emotional over something as trivial as a lunar body, but i'm conditioned to think of it as completely normal to post it in a thread after a good 4 years on xltronic. Shame, by the way, that you won't be able to see the eclipse in Chile. |

it was totally clear here too. it began to rise over the mountains already in full eclipse, all red and rusty, and then immediately began to come out of it. |

thanks aengus. as you can see, there is motion blur, even though the camera was on a sturdy tripod. you see that the a is blurred in the same way. Apparently, in 15 seconds, the moon and/or the earth move enough to cause this. If i had a dslr i could have upped the ISO value but in my case i had to stick to iso50 to minimize noise. Hopefully someone else has some pics to contribute. Wiki on lunar eclipse is already updated by the way. |
