I've posted a lot of threads recently on the awful performance of foobar and firefox on this board.
I apologise for the deluge, but I just did a benchmark test and scored awfully (18.5 out of 100) compared to my friend's mac (95.7 out of 100).
From this data, can any of you knowledgable guys comment and suggest what the problem is and whether it's fixable?
:(

probably not alot you can do other than a full reformat and really getting under the hood to make sure there are only the things running which you need.
its prolly because youve got a dell, they suck.
haha, my macbook kicked your ass btw.

not much else you can do i think, other than upgrading your hardware, but i assume you were looking for some kind of software solution.

Does it run really hot? A P4 will scale back its performance as it heats up so as not to explode. Maybe a fan died. Maybe the vents are blocked by dried blood and scabs? Is the clock speed set properly in the bios? Are you over / underclocking inadvertently?

you need to get a B port proxy module with the latest service pack plugins, and download bioluminescence 3 to weed out the server bugs on your hard drive's RAM. Once your processor is up to 23 Hthz, you can freeze it there then align your computers internal clock time to match it.

Mine would kick it if I knew what I was doing when I put it together.. I just bought random parts that looked good, but luckily before I ordered a friend told me which parts weren't going to fit with which parts, so I ordered some other parts. Then I shoved it all into a cabinet.

that's wishful thinking.
you have a poor (frontside)bus in your setup btw. 200mhz is not much. especially with the 600+ of the macbook.

That's probably one of the things that would've been different if I knew what a bus is and what it does and what its mhz does.

the bus is like the nervous system in your body. in short: the faster it is, the faster information goes from one part to the other.

God damned!
I don't think there are that many that fit with this setup.. There's a huge-ass fan on here to keep things cool but it almost doesn't fit inside the cabinet, and it's really really close to some of the things that stick up from the motherboard.

Depends on whether or not your CPU and memory support the higher bus speed.

and why you should change it? that depends. mind that scoring high in this test doesn't guarantee any fast real-world results (apart from this test itself). if it performs to your likings, don't change anything. if it works, it works....especially with pc's.

Yeah, it's kind of working perfectly, but I just thought if there was something to gain on it.. The only real problem I've had with the comp is that if I for some reason should want to play a 3d game, the screencard is crap and makes lines and artifacts and stuff.. it's probably overheating since I took one without a fan to reduce fan noise.
