The barman at the bar in my Hall told me the other day that
DJ Shadow had just released an album of new material. Is
this true, because I don't think it is. Anyway, what has
Shadow done since his only album way back in 1996?

Aye .. infact 'tis ..

tho its meant to be released in 2 months .. but i think you
can find some stuff on http://mp3.hurley.nu/ ? was mentioned
in another thread re: dj shadow.

might want to do a "search" for dj shadow, should find quite
a few threads re: this rumour

Hey, Korben, have you heard his first two singles, In/Flux
and Lost and Found? They were supposed to be really good,
but I could never find them.

No, Nacmat, UNKLE released a brilliant EP back in about 1995
called 'The Time Has Come'. It featured remixes by
Portishead and Plaid. You should check it out.

krendo:

re: lost and found - its on preemptive strike which was
released in 97 .. and is effectively (what i presumed to be)
dj shadows first 3 singles ..

not bad .. but i much prefer entroducing!

and yeah .. i think the jist with UNKLE (despite formally
being DJ SHadow and James Lavelle) is that they do it with
other people .. ofcourse this aint no exclusive rule.

yeah.. UNKLE remixes of stuff pop up in all sorts of
unexpected places .. like some david holmes compilation (i
think) i saw in a bargain bin once, featured a verve/richard
ashcroft Mix ... ???

the mp3s have been taken off that site now due to too many
hits.

i can say that the new album is very very good. constructed
from samples he took froma music machine at the seaside
where people left demos or something. ingenius.

UNKLE is not always shadow the newer stuff isn't (i.e. the
Soma remix), beware some UNKLE stuff without shadow is cack.

Sounds silly. But I have dowloaded it already, so noo need
to complain...

monosylabik, is very squarepusher like. it sort of sounds
like a cross betwen my red hot car and something like
coopers world.

Has anyone got the Slam vs UNKLE single Narco Tourists? Its
class. I also picked up a limited 10" with another Lavelle
mix which takes the breaks at the start of the original as
the basis of the track.

Shadow fans take note:

BBC Radio 1 22nd May: DJ Shadow: Brownswood Basement
Mr Josh Davis aka DJ Shadow and Mr Gilles Peterson get dusty
in the basement and pull out some serious old school
selections. Digging in the crates-Shadow style. Get those
tapes ready!!

Has anyone bought the new single yet? I'm a bit
disappointed. I've already been let down by the new Doves
album and now this.

My girlfriend noticed the Simon and Garfunkel sample and was
winding me up. She loves them and doesn't understand the
merits of sample based music. I'm sure there's a sample of
the Temple of Love by the Sisters of Mercy in there too.

it's actually a sample of a song S&G cover, but shadow
samples the los incas original. i have the promo, which has
the same tracks + another "letter from home" and the radio
edit of the single. it's good but i wouldn't have bought it
(got it for free). interesting to hear zack de la rocha's
production style on "disavowed".

except the drums are infinitely better than any fatboy slim

directions - surf, techno, straight rock, and hip-hop

I think Shadow's "endtroducing" is the most overrated album
ever. it's ok but it's only sample-hip-hop with black soul
and weak drums solutions. i hope "private press" is better-
a lot of my mates love dj shdw so I don't want them to be
dissapointed ;O)

i was not thinking of the sound- he has great drum samples
but about the patterns/complexity maybe with one exception-
the sixth untitled track has blowin my mind rhythm.

6 is less than a minute long; it's like a gimick track. the
drum patterns are really complex on this album i think you
should relisten to it, especially "number song",
"changeling", and "building steam with a grain of salt"
