ive not felt this optimistic about politics in my life. for
the united states presidential election in 2008 we have a
senator Barack Obama (wikipedia link) and Hillary Clinton
(wikipedia link)

a black man... and a woman :) both with awesome ideas,
namely in the areas of health care, withdrawing from iraq,
stem cell research and more, prolonging human existance,
foreign policy reform, and more

i just watched barack's announcement and he's fuckn clean
too. young, wise, and articulate

bush's last day is coming. the evil, conservative christian
right-wing will lose their hold of america! what a day it is
to rejoice

I read somewhere the other day that beer contains female
hormones. They did a test where 100 men drank six pints of
beer and in less than half an hour, they were all talking
rubbish and couldn't drive.

i really really really hope obama wins the primaries, as i
think he has a far greater chance of winning than hilary
does. i think (read: hope) this country is sick of dynasties
by now.

Barack Obama said on CNN that he'd cut troops in Iraq in
half, as and when he'd be elected. A morale-boosting magic
show is just what they need.

Obama has no chance because you KNOW that the republicans
will use of the obama/osama play, and since most americans
are that stupid they will fall for that. Hillary has more of
a shot, but you KNOW the republicans will use the fact that
she's a woman against her like: she's a woman and US is a
country in the middle of war. be ready for another 4 years
of republican rule.

Watch what happens when anyone criticizes the right wing
guy's Mormonism (it's a pretty kooky religion with magic
underwear and magic handshakes). All of a sudden religion
will be off the table as a fair question. After 7 years of
hatin' on Muslims. And at the same time they'll be using
Islam against Obama.

I read somewhere about that guy that Mormons, as kooky as
their beliefs in buried golden plates and doing each others
washing up is, that they don't mix religion and politics, so
that might go in his favour as people tire of Bush
shoehorning God into his plans for turning the world into a
nuclear powered carpark.

Depends on whether or not there's a major terror attach on
the US, what Bush does or doesn't do to Iran, what the price
of oil is, and whether or not Gore enters the race.

If things remain more or less stable and Barack Obama gets
elected in spite of the right wing propaganda, it will
completely restore my faith in the US people. If things go
badly and Americans close ranks and vote conservative...
eugh.

Oh yeah, Mormons aren't bad folks, as weird as some of their
beliefs may be. I'm just saying if there's a serious chance
of a Mormon being elected president, the US is going to get
a crash course in Mormon theology from the political noise
machine(s).

These kinds of threads bother me. I am not a republican,
nor am I disagreeing that most people on this board
sympathize with your viewpoint. However, making a post so
unapologetically left-wing and assuming everyone agrees with
you seems a bit presumptuous. The more we practice this
mindlessly adversarial approach, the more we will impede
progress of any kind. I like you Cygnus, don't get me
wrong.. it's just an observation, so please don't take it as
a personal attack.

It all depends on the persons' perception of what
'conservative' is nowadays... Given how the current
Republicans have been acting they've twisted the intent of
the party... It's not too far a stretch to see them as
"evil".

recall correctly, also do you expect me to believe a black
man would go to a public sauna with a LESBIAN??

Id vote for Barak. I like him.

Fame and status is a big deal in the usa so I personally

exactly, it's perfect timing on hillary's part. on one side,
the current world needs a softer more female touch. there's
way too much aggression, thanks to bush's administration,
and people need to learn to listen to eachother again.
on the other side you have the conservative islamic world.
will they listen if 'we' send them hillary? or would they
rather listen to someone like obama? i'd figure it'd be
obama.

women are better empaths

but seriously though, the difference is more symbolic.
america needs a wind of change. and what's the opposite of a
joe sixpack president who can't spell potato...right, an
intellectual female like hillary. obama comes close too, of
course.

and everybody with a mind will act differently
